Who here does unassisted chin-ups or pull-ups?

Bwahah! Daisy, I did a major double take when I read that, I was like "REALLY!!??" *lol*

JensCat, I'm in the same boat and that one I can do, is not pretty. :( Why are they so damn hard?

I can do nine or ten chins - or, on a good day, three wide-grip pullups. Now I wanna be able to dip.

I used to do chins twice a week (even though I was doing everything else once a week), for some reason that helped a lot.

I just think my butt is too big. I can't pull it up. :) lol

Chin ups are one of those things that you HAVE to do regularly. Like pushups and most bodyweight exercises. Once you start doing them regularly, they become a little easier. UGH!

Lola: That's awesome! My goal is to do ten good ones, I'm a long way away, but I'll get there eventually. :) I haven't been doing 2x a week though..maybe I'll try that for awhile..

Daisy: :lmao: Nothing makes me feel more of a lardass than when I'm struggling to do 2 chinups, and then the guy right after me does them effortlessly using weight... D'oh!

I am struggling with chinups myself.
can't do any yet (unassisted), although I have been using the assisted chin machine with pulling up to 3/4 of my bw. usually 4sets 1x wk. as well as a few assisted chins on the bar occasionally...
Anyone have any suggestions?? thanks :)

Lola: ten chins! Wow, that's great :)

I mainly do neutral grip pullups, a little wide than shoulder width. These really hit the lats nicely, and don't bother my shoulders when they're healthy.

I usually do 4 sets of 6 or so; at one point I was weighting them with 15 lbs. for 5 sets of 4, but I had to back off for a while thanks to a bum shoulder. I just started them again and haven't tossed weight on yet.

When you are looking to establish your first chin up or increase, just as with using a spotter to pound out that last rep so next time you can do one more on your own - I've always made my best progress in doing chin ups by having someone "spot" me by holding my feet. Each time you try, you end up doing a little less pushing against the person supporting your feet until the day you get the big ONE.

I think chin ups are awesome. I so love watching the lats on a guy pounding out a bunch of them. I've personally managed 1 1/2. I've used the assisted chin-up thing over the years, however for some reason I've made the biggest progress with a spotter over a couple of weeks.

I'm not feeling so bad now! I'm with daisy....lifting that wagon is hard work.....I can do about 4-5 unassisted..

I can do better with dips than chin ups or pull ups. I'll have to try today to see if I can do more than 1.

I find I can do them better if I really concentrate on using my lats instead of my arms to pull me up.

The other problem is is that I can't reach the bar so I have to move a bench over to stand on to climb up!! hehehehe

I agree with Sassy69. It is much easier to have someone spot you to help as you need it. When I first started, I couldn't even do one chin-up. My ex-boyfriend would "spot" me and only help when I absolutely couldn't go anymore. Now, I can do like 6 or seven (depending on the day!). Assisted chin-up machines are pretty good, too, (that's what I have to use now) but I liked having someone there instead.

My wife could do 12 wide grip pullups behind her neck in perfect form.

She did one armed dumbell rows with 90 lbs for 8-10 reps in perfect form. :)
