Like Cure said he was a cool guy with poor people. Just like Pablo Escobar in Colombia.

Now did you ever wonder why during the Mussolini's years Mafia was so quiet ? lol Go figure. Also do you think we would be praising Gotti in China ? Hell no, they have placed a bullet in his poor head long time ago....

Anyway, as long as they kill other criminals I really dont give a fuck. Actually it makes our job easier......

Why even ask this question. Why is the sopranos a hit tv show?

People are in love with the mob...look at all the mob movies (my fav is good fellas)

Many people see being "connected" as a good thing. It gives you certain powers that are kinda like being above the law. Like the children of cops often get special treatment...Well being in the family gets you special treatment. Nobody fucks with you, its like your all of a sudden protected. You get away with alot of shit. People are paid off. Judges, cops lawyers...everybody has their hands out. The people not in the mob look at it and see someone just like them but with all these special advantages...always somewhat away from dealing with the hassels of everyday life. You get treated like a king by most. Thats why people are obsessed by him. Sure people get killed, but its not like ghetto trash who gets pissed off and decides to take his gun and do a drive by. Everything is well thought out and there is always reason for something..

Besides, there was never any proof gotti had anything to do with his neighbor dissapearing. For all we know it could be one of his lowly henchmen trying to move up in the ranks and build a name for himself. If i was a piece of shit cronie trying to get into the mob i would avenge the death of the big bosses son. Even though he wasnt at the top at that point, he still had some power.

It had nothing to do with him being connected or powerful. People who grew up around him usually looked past that which is the exact reason they did see some good in him. People don't say "oh man he was powerful, so let me touch his casket" HE'S DEAD. What kind of power does he have now 6 feet under?

He touched people in a different way which the mob has nothing to do with.

Good replys! Some people are to dumb to figure a guy like Gotti had friends outside the MOB!Instead they want to rant and rave about what they think this man did in his life based off of movies and hearsay when in all reality they dont know what the hell there talking about! AAA

You are right HighIntensity.. it really doesn't have anything to do with the argument..I just didn't like your tone.. I am not always right, but I try to be, and if I make a mistake its not intentional...

Here is the quote from John Gotti"

“These fuckin’ bums that write books,” Gotti complained, “they’re worse than us. My fuckin’ father was born in New Jersey. He ain’t never been in Italy his whole fuckin’ life. My mother neither. The guy never worked a fuckin’ day in his life. He was a rolling stone; he never provided for the family. He never did nothin’. He never earned nothin’. And we never had nothin’.”

While this description of his father’s work habits was overblown, the family was raised in a dirt-poor, poverty-ridden section of the South Bronx. By the time Gotti was ten, his father had saved enough money to move the family to the Sheepshead Bay neighborhood of Brooklyn. This proved to be a definite step up from their four-room flat in the South Bronx. A year later, another move placed the family in an area of Brooklyn known as East New York.

.... that quote was in response the the traditional tale of Gotti's roots.. which is:

John Joseph Gotti, Jr. was born on October 27, 1940. He was the fifth child of John J. Gotti, Sr. and his wife, Fannie. The family grew to eleven children – seven boys and four girls. Due to poor medical care of his siblings died during childhood. Gotti’s father was described in early writings as a hardworking immigrant from the Neapolitan section of Italy. Years later, Gotti would tell a very different story about his father to Salvatore “Sammy the Bull” Gravano (the Gambino Family underboss who would become the most infamous mob rat in America):

Ya, same with Osama I guess. He had how many Americans killed. But of course people in his homeland love him cause of what he's doing for their cause. Sorry but I don't personally care how many poor people anyone helped, or any kind of bullshit like that when you can right around and do the exact opposite...from an angel to a devil in a blink of an eye. The bad in my eyes far outweighs any good deeds. I think maybe the good deeds are done just to maybe instill that view of goodness in their image so that when they do the bad things, no one cares as much because people will always say "oh so what if he killed 500000000 people, I mean, look at those 20 poor people he helped, or look how he killed that one guy down in that city who ws messing with people". The way i see it, if you do an utmost good and turn right around and do an utmost bad, in my eyes that puts you right in limbo and makes you nothing.

Well the original question was why people wanted to touch his casket and i gave my answer. Take it or leave it. This is what people thought of the guy. No opinion but fact from the people who knew and lived in the same neiborhood as he.

Another thing i find weird. Major migration of italians to the US came to be in the 1920's. If Gotti was born in 1940 then his father must of had him at an early age because i don't remember italians migrating to the USA much before 1910 therefore i speculate his father was born in Italy.

If this is from Mr. Gotti then I stand corrected, thank you for the enlightenment

Burning Inside, You started this thread, wondering who these Idiots are that have respect for Gotti, You did not get the responces you wanted to hear! Face it everybody has different views, but you cannot seem to accept that fact? Instead you make the dumbest comparisons to Osama,Aids and what ever else you compare Gotti to! And you cannot even see that know one is backing your comparisons! You make comparisons that dont even make since! Accept the fact that people have different views than yours, some may agree with you but some are not going to! The more I read your post I can really tell you hate Gotti, Fine so be it you have that right! You are the type of person who judges a book by it cover, instead of opening that book to see what its about, Good way to live life! Since you feel so strong about this, go to the neighborhood of these idiots as you call them and tell them how you feel, instead of running your grill over a keyboard! But something tells me that just wont happen? Please update us if you decide to do that, we will be waiting to hear how it went!
