whey isolate only???

Socrates

New member
I would like some opinions here. Why or why not? Should a person use only whey protein isolate for there only protein source all day? its easy, fairly cheap and very precise. It is time effective and you dont have to cook.

PROS-precision, less time to mess with. best absorbable protein available. Also I take it every 2 hours, so would the whole time released protein thing even be a problem?

CONS-higher GI,(and is this really true or that big of a deal?) wouldnt it be good if your having a low fat and carb meal-to get insulin to absorb the protein??? Lack of excitement in diet. thats all the bad I can think of.
-the wholel debate of a multi species blend and a mix of concentrate to give better absorbtion time is bull shit to me. i think it is a way to make more money of the protein. Anyway if you disagree or can clear it up better to me then please do.

THEREFORE a easy and simple diet for a coollege kid like myself would be-8 meals. 1 every 2 hours. all from raw oatmeal and whey protein isolate. (efa's taken before bed, 2 tablespoons of flax or olive oil). this is very easy to folllow and if you dont have time its great. any suggestions, or downfalls. its also very easy to count your calories like this.....

While you assure yourself an adequate and complete pool of aminos, you greatly reduce your metabolism and the constant supply of aminos by eliminating solid food.

so if i have an adequate supply(pool) of aminos, then what is the problem if i dont get a contstant supply ? and sure a high metabolisim is important but if i am getting the right amount of calories to not get fat then what then is the point of a high metabolisim? thanks swole and whomever.

Liquid (shakes) are absorbed very quickly, leaving nothing in the gut to "pull" from.

As well, liquid does very little to stimulate the metabolism, so even if you eat at or below maintenance, after a while your metabolism slows and you'll find you'll need to eat less! That's not good.

If he were to add fat to his whey protein, like an equilvalent calorie count of heavy whipping cream, wouldn't that effectively slow gastric emptying? When done over 8 meals it would seem Socrates is not going too long without protein in the system.

Yeah, it does slow it down for sure, but as many will tell you, there is nothing like REAL FOOD. Why do you think bodybuilders cut out shakes 3-4 weeks away from a show? Metabolism for one, satiety for two, and sodium/pre-contest reasons as well.

do you have any idea of the differance in the rate of metabolism? so if metabolism is slower and you need less food you save money. and it takes less to maintain. how is this bad? if you are MAINTAINING. so then it would take less to build then correct? i=and isnt it easier to get less sodium in powder then real food??? i suppose unless you have the time and money to eat the fresh shit all the time. but what about canned stuff that i am sure the majority uses. thanks swolenan

From your answer, I can't see where satiety and a crashing metabolism would be a problem by adding a significant amount of fat to the whey IF Socrates doesn't go too low on calories. His diet idea may not be ideal, but I questioned the addition of the fat as a possible way to make his plan better.
