Where do you think communication will go in the future?

I guess what I mean is more and more often people only communicate virtually, by text message, email and instant messenger. People are starting to get identified on television by their screen names if they do anything online like poker or gaming. I see couples going to work and eating dinner in restaurants that are on their cell phones and blackberries.

We also see trends where young kids don't learn how to spell (because they communicate in internet speak), use grammar or do anything by hand like writing or math.

So what do you think is going to happen?

I think we will have implanted chips. It is just a matter of time. Why read a book when you can download it your brain.

Texting will evolve into its own language that the technology "haves" will use. Then the technology "have nots" will be relegated to the Spanish language and be the worker bee class.

And the world will be ruled by damn dirty apes!

Fuck I hope so. So pointless wasting months / years of your life training or studying for something.

I almost did my research project on this very dilemma but was discouraged by the professors cause it wasn't mainstream and to 'out there' so I didn't and instead focused on attacking the media marketization of our culture industries and how it has fucked us all up, in accord with our doing too... but anyway here is the problem, right now our limited understanding 3 entities time, space, and knowledge dictate our perceptions on reality... for example notice how time is speeding up... well this is due our limited form of knowledge, the kind that is based on logic and measuring out by a type of knowledge that divides and classifies, which proliferates data upon data, and now we are engulfed in a sea of data, unable to retain our present bearings... well now they are basing computer models mimicing the brain, and will soon have a model based on this limited form of knowledge, what if something that makes us human, like creativity, love, wonder, empathy... is all left out of the equation? Trust me a wider more encompassing knowledge is available... only time will tell what will happen to us our destiny or fate.

ummmm, a lot of that went over my head, but if I got 10% of it, I think you were talking about replacing our brains with computers. I dont like the idea of that, but I sure as hell would be down for a better filing system that supports rapid upload and no need for constant reinforcement. I read somewhere that our brains can store approximately 100 tb of data........but much of that goes towards spatial processing and images etc.

You need better professors. Unique ideas like that need to be nurtured and refined, not abandoned.

E Communication is great between people who know each other or far away.

But Personal Communication, with an emphasis on body language and visual - is 1000% necessary still for negotiations or meeting people (like women) for the first time.

This will NEVER change.

You'll never be able to pickup a hot chick online with a profile of a smiley face.
