When to do standing rows??

tzan

New member
I haven't done this exercise in a while and want to start incorporating it back into my routine, however the way my splits are currently set up I'm not sure which day would be most beneficial for them. Here is my splits:

Back/Rear Delts
Chest/Front & Side Delts
Off
Legs
Arms
Off
Off

I know this exercise hits all 3 heads and am a little unsure which day would be best for them. I was leaning towards Chest day and making that workout look like this:

4 sets incline bb
4 sets flat bb
2 sets weighted dips
4 sets millitary
3 sets upright bb row(right now I do side raises)

What do ya think??

By standing rows do you mean standing upright rows?

I dont know if the way you have your workout routine setup you really have a good place to put them.

Chest day might be the better option since that is the day where you work the two main heads. Your routine looks heavy on the shoulders. Though you cant really isolate different heads of the shoulder, you can put an emphasis towards certain ones. So essentially you'll be hitting all heads two days in a row.

On back day you'll be using your biceps, and then the next day doing upright rows you will also be using your biceps. This impact might be minimal - but its something to think about.

Yea, I mean standing upright rows. I know what your saying about it being a tough exercise to fit in with the way my splits are, but I really like my current splits and would love ot start doing upright rows again. I feel it works better then side raises because I can go a lot heavier while keeping my form. So thats 2 for chest day, anyone think it would be more beneficial on another day??

I would do it on back day. Think of that day as more of a "pull" day, and your chest/front delts day more of a "push" day. Also, upright rows hit the traps a lot, which is more of a back muscle anyway.

I think you need to check your training regimine....first off....uprights and side lats are two COMPLETELY diiferent movements and exercises that target two totally different regions of the delt.........one is more of a front delt/trap, the other is the side a post anterior delt............my .02, either add a day and go chest, back and then delts/traps...or go back and delts, and chest and calves or something....

looks good- only I would use the ezcurl bar for upright rows (easier on your wrists than straight bar).

agreed. i prefer eazy bar, but it depends on ur genetic structure.

Switch them instead of lateral raises if that is what you want, doing them on back day will hinder strength on chest/delt day

disagree.....I think lat raises are pretty important for the taper look, but it depends on yor goals...........
