Yeah I dated this girl for almost 3 years, and thought she was the one. She comes back from 4 days being at home and we are driving down the road and I say something funny and she laughs, and slaps me on the arm and says, "Don't say that Dave!". My name is not dave, thats her boyfriend from frigin HIGH SCHOOL. I about caused a pile up on the 5 freeway I braked so hard. 2 days later I broke up with her kind of as a pre-emptive strike and she didn't seem to care so I know I did the right thing.

back then, i played rugby, chased women, attended class occassionally and ran with some people of questionable moral standards. . .i was madly in love with her (only other time in my life for that matter), but she felt the i would not be able to provide for her in the manner to which she was accustomed. . .now she's married to a police officer (seems like a real nice guy) and I'm a dedicated family man, professional, masters degree, several professional certifications, doing quite well for myself, thankyou. . .her loss

I've felt heartbroken before, even on a huge level (its bigger as you get older and there are things like marriage and children in the mix), but to me, having your 'heart ripped out' indicates that whatever pain you're feeling came out of the blue, and i'm just not usually that blind, or i was just not surprised by the turn of events.

I'm also the type of person that doesn't wallow in it for long- I'm quick to say "ok, now what should i do?" and then do it, and i think that focus helps make that heartbreak go away.

i know that happens, and that sure is getting your heart ripped out.
I have a friend who's wife just one day went cold. She just seemed to one day not be able to stand him. He kept asking her what was wrong, what did he do, and it got worse the more he asked. He bought her gifts, he threw her parties, he tried marriage counceling... she wanted nothing to do with it.

He was heartbroken over his wife, but he rented her her own house (they lived in a $2 million home together), and started dating.

then she wanted him back.
