When is it time to start wrapping your knees?

I have yet to suffer any sort of major injury from lifting, probably due to extensive warming up, stretching and a little AR here and there, as well as trying to read up on every single exercise and their variations. However last week, after I finished my hack squats (8 and 20 rep sets - doing a DC workout atm) I felt a little dull pain in the back of my knee. I'm not quite sure if my foot placement was off, if my knee was over my toe while squatting or the weights are just getting too heavy. Just wanted to get a sense from the others on the board of when they started to wrap their knees.
