What's wrong with my squat form?

I don't have a vid to post, but I know I'm doing something wrong. Hard to describe without showing it, but the basics are that I get a ridiculous pump in my lower back when squatting. So far, I'm only squatting to parallel because my hip flexibility isn't good enough to go to the floor. Any ideas?

As long as your hip flexibility is poor (which you recognize), you'll lean forward, essentially turn the squat into a good morning, and use your lower back.

Like Sarge said, go ATF even if that means lowering the weight significantly to do so. This alone will improve your flexibility, but, again as already mentioned, stretching will speed up the process.

I didn't have trouble going past parallel with squats, but I know exactly what mean when you talk about the way your back feels. When I first started the 5x5, I used to get a huge freaking pump in my lower back from squats. I was worried about it, but it mostly went away after about 4 weeks. If you're new to squats, deads, and rows, you'll be pretty sore until your back gets into shape.

I think the problem is your location. No one anywhere near Texas A&M can squat for shit. I would transfer to UT and hope for the best. Good luck. Hook em Horns.
