What's wrong with my printer?!

100K to anyone that can help me fix my printer. And no, telling me to buy a new one doesn't count. :D

When I print text, there are horizontal lines of no ink running across the paper, sometimes only in 4-5 spots, sometimes in 90% of the page. What's wrong?

I did all the maintenance stuff both on the printer, as well as from the desktop controls: Nozzle check, head cleaning and print head alignment. In the latter of the three, the printer prints out four different sets of boxes, and you're supposed to chose which of the nine in each set has the fewest lines. Some are better than others, but all of them still have horizontal lines running through them. Needless to say, none of the maintenance helped.

When I got new ink for the printer a month or so ago, it worked okay when I tested it out. However, it's reverted back to it's bad habits again.

Ideas? Options? It's an Epson Stylus C66.

Have you used it alot since you got the new ink?

I've had cartridges run out pretty quickly when I printed a bunch of slides and stuff for school.

Maybe try buying another cartridge.

No, not at all. The ink's still pretty much full. This problem existed for a while before changing the ink, but it got better. Now it's back, and I don't know how to remedy it. I'm pretty sure half blanked-out lines of text would look bad on a resume.

buy a laser printer...

it's the ink.. if not the ink.. time to buy a new printer..

epson R200

does print on cd's

This IS the new printer, dammit. They stop working after a couple years, and I keep replacing the damn things.

I live in a dorm, so I'm not buying a laser printer, nor do I have room for the crappy 5-in-1 printers gracing the shelves of local Office Max's. I don't want a fax machine, phone, scanner, or the ability to print glossy photos. I just want a printer to print text, and lots of it. Having the ability to print a 4-color picture every now and then is a plus.

Go Here:

http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/...doid=46048264&infoType=Downloads&platform=All

Remove the printer from your system. Delete printer, do 'Uninstall' of any software, delete any driver, unplug, reboot.

Replug, Install latest driver from above.

Wait, wait... speak slowly. How do I confirm that I have software or drivers pertaining to this printer?

What do these printer drivers do? How is my present one causing patchy lines?

This looks like the credited option, but I don't want to delete something I need. Or something. Stupid printers.

Holy fug you damn nerd...

What Operating System are you running?

Start, Control Panel, Printers, Delete all the Epson Stylus 66 printers.

Go to Start, Control Panel, Add Remove Programs.. anything 'Epson' related to that printer.. uninstall it.

Down load the driver appropriate to your OS, at the link provided.

Reboot.

Install the new downloaded driver.

Amazing some of the shit you know, but you prolly can't figure out how to start your car.

So I download the driver, reboot, and then install the new driver I downloaded before the reboot? Seems a wierd order, but I'll try that. I'm running XP Pro (2002).

BTW, what's this "Windows XP 64-bit Edition" on the Epson page? I haven't heard of it, so I probably don't have or need it.

Care to briefly exaggerate what erasing and reinstalling the printer driver will do? Is my printer problem related to this? I thought it might be a mechanical problem in the printer itself.

And not only do I know how to start my car, but I also know how to pump gasoline into it. (Anything beyond that, however, I'm clueless, lol. Wait... I changed the oil once, I think...)

ok..i actually have a few of these printers in my dads buisness lol.. they seem to be a very shitty make of printers..get em goin bad all the time.. heres the run down that fixed problems 9/10 times. Yes if u have the wrong driver installed, then its gonna be all whacked out and funky...www.espon.com is the place u need to download an updated driver from.. but first..lets remove this sum a bitch. go to ur control panel..printers..delete the printer..unplug all printer devices.. and so forth.. now, install the driver, it should ask at a certain point and time to re-connect the printer. if not, reconnect all printer wires and such.. problem solved. If problem still occurs, u needa get inside that bad boy and start doing some cleaning. First, take a vaccum or compressed air and blow the dust/shit out of it. 2nd, take your ink cartridges out and wipe them down with rubbing alcohol. next clean off the place where the cartidge meets the printer itself, once again, with alcohol. worst case scenerio, your printers screwed.. you can contact me for further information @ [email protected] if those 2 solutions do not help you..ill be glad to dig into it more and help ya out!

The driver basically tells the computer how to "talk" to the printer. If it is a "bad driver" then the message gets garbled, aka your lines. Windows is retarded, when you uninstall something, it is still "present" in the source code, until you reload it by rebooting. Therefore, you must uninstall the old software/driver, reboot to clear everything, then install a new copy.

Hit it with your fist like a hammer, one hit should do.
