It's no wonder everyone on the Internet "lies" about their stats. The truth is people aren't actually lying, they're just ignorant. The guy who said pros look ripped at 10-12% is bang-on. Of course, they don't step on stage at that bodyfat, but they'd still look damn good.

In reality, 15% and you'll look pretty good; 12% and you'll be "ripped"; and sub-10% and you're shredded. These translate to 10%, 7-8%, and 5% as far as people on these boards seem to think.

lol

Well, I'll go as low as 7%. My original post was more of a reaction to the guys saying "5% tops", etc. It's guys like that who piss me off because it makes the rest of us who discuss our ACTUAL stats seem inferior.

Anyway, like StickFigure said (before everyone jumped all over him for being "wrong"), the bigger you are the higher your bodyfat % is going to be, even if you still look ripped. As muscles get larger, they hold more lean tissue AND more water AND more fat. However, when you start discussing pros on stage, you're changing things up a bit as diuretics have come into play. They're all dried out and this has an effect on bodyfat %. You always have 2-4% bodyfat just surrounding your organs or you'd die. Pros on stage are not going to have much more than that, but still you hear people saying "oh this guy's on stage at 2%"...no, not possible.

And as for Dexter, there's no way he steps on stage at the same bodyfat % as the guy in the pic. You may think it's close, but I assure you it's not.

Your the expert here right?? Not those of us that have actually stepped on stage numerous times....??

15% does not look good on the average frame. 18% is average on the US male....and that average is fat. 21% is approaching obese....and you think 15% looks good.

Furthemore 12% is not ripped. Sub 10% is admirable, but hardly shredded when looking at averages. Drop below 7-8% and you are dead on when using an adjective like shredded.

Calipers are not accurate. Ripped, shredded, oh so subjective.....don't you think?? :)

2 things:

1) "Ripped" and "shredded" are quite subjective...perhaps my views are different from others. IF that is the case, I assure you that they do not differ that much.

2) 18% IS average in the US. However, and this is a HUGE however that no one seems to realize, the average person in the US has basically zero muscle mass. Therefore, 18% looks like $#@% on the average person, not the average lifter (note: I don't think 18% looks good on a lifter either, but it's not nearly as bad as many of you seem to believe). There's a big difference in physiques when you take a guy who is 6' 160 18% and compare him to someone who works out and is 6' 230 18%.

Holy fuck! Check out that waistline. It's like the size of my thigh! It's so tiny, it's actually sick!

The dread's gotta go though. Can't show off the shoulders and neck.
