155+ m.p.h in a heavily modified `75 Chevy Monza (built `70 Corvette 350 LT1 motor), was still pulling hard when what little discretion I posessed at the time got the better of me. The tach was reading about 6800 rpm in high gear when I lifted, but the motor would pull to 7500+, which would've been well over 175 mph.
The guy riding shotgun was white as a sheet and shaking like hell when he got outta the car...looking back, I guess I can't blame him. Amazingly enough, we're still friends.
Incredibly stupid on my part....seemed "fun" at the time, but the car had no roll cage, nor did it have tires rated for that kind of speed. FWIW, this took place on a totally deserted 4+ mile stretch of a state route almost 20 years ago.
