Whatcha Bench?

Just curious as to what your bench is vrs. your weight. I am 173 lbs. and bench 275. That's over 1 1/2 my body weight. Just wanted to see where I stand comparitively. Plus wanted to post my new best of 275. Maybe 300 soon.

OK, I'll delete it after someone answers me what "shirted" is. I'm guessing it is like using wraps, only some sort of shirt???

Congrats on the PR!

But, as BBBD said, threads like this tend to turn into a pissing contest, and people get angry at each other.

I'll post just for the simple reason that no one else on here is as weak as me.

I'm currently around 260lbs and I'm maxing in two weeks, hoping to bench 200.
...chad...

Yeah, I actually tried for 280, failed. My wife spots me so I gotta be carefull. I was just elated that I finally got 275. It was frustrating trying for 275 and failing.

405 is my max until I max out again.

I weigh 233.

405 is great bench but why does every body's bench always so even. I mean why not 407.5? didnt u try add 1.25 plates on each to try up ur max? or the other guy who put up 275lbs? i mean does every body it seems like to max right at a plate or a quater? dont u ppl add 2.5 lbs plates? pr 1.25 lbsplates? " sup dude whats yuoe bench?" umm" like 315" come on ppl

My intention of this thead was actually to see lb for lb how I was doing. Polishhammer kicks ass. lb for lb I should be benching over 300. See what I mean?

My point is made.....now let the games begin.

I tested myself and left it there.

If you are in the NY area PM me and we'll train.

Just to backup PH and Buck, where most people train 1.25 lb plates and 4.37 lb plates etc do not exist. If you are in a sanctioned PL contest, you can get more detailed, but in training bar weight plus any combo of evenly loaded plates will yield an even number. If you hit 405, your max is between 405 and 410, unless you're competing 405 is close enough, who cares if it is 408.324???

To be honest, I would have to weigh my bar and each weight to ensure it is exaclty correct. 275 is close enough in my book.

It's just a benchmark. The day I lift 3 plates, you can bet I will be happy. But, if I say I can bench 310, well, that's not 3 plates. It just looks cool on the bar.

i am not saying that close or spilting hairs....but whenever the topic of bench pressing comes up, ppl always say like such a round nice perfect number like 3 plates (315lbs)

i'm not even sure because i keep progressing. i really dont max at all raw now. usually work up to a 3 rep max on my raw days

as for the odd numbers question, plates in america are usually made in pounds, not kilograms. so if you have metric weights, it will produce an odd number of pounds, same with pounds to kilos

I lift in my room :)

u got some nice pipes and i belive u got a big bench, but ever try 1.25 lbs plates or just a bit more then 405? were u just satisfied with 4 wheels, and just take thayt as your personal best? why not 410?

Nice Meathead!!!! For most ppl on here, if you say you bench 230 they say wtf. But for only 140 lb. bodyweight, that is outstanding. If you weighed 200 your bench could be over 325.

Thanxs man. Iwas pumped to raise the 405 man. It is not going to be my all time personal best but for that time it was.

My focus now is not on my flat bench rather my OHP. I know my bench will grow but how much I do not know? I will know when my training cycle ends.

:)

I have never seen a 1.5lb plate.

Most bber's shoot for golden numbers, like 315, 365, 385, 405, 455 because of the evenness of the plates on the bar. When you hit a 3 plate bench, I think the risk of possible injury in going ahead to try the same bench only with a couple of dinky 2.5lbers added to the side is not worth it. Especially when you start hitting 400+.

Reminds me of my old gym where there was this brother who was a trainer. He was probably about 5'8" 200lbs. He would always be training this one Italian guy who was not nearly as strong as he was, but the trainer would always find a way to work in his own extreme lifts for "educational purposes" I guess. Basically it was showing off, but I won't hate because he's got a very respectable physique and strength level. Anyways one time he was training the Italian dude on legs and decided it was time to show him what proper form on a 500lb squat looks like. Not to mention this Italian guy had probably a 285 parallel squat and would probably never squat 500lbs in his life. But I just watched the trainer load on the two dinky 2.5lbers on the side after loaded up 5 plates. It just struck me as trivial to have the dinkies on there. Anyways he squatted it(probably about 4 inches above parallel). The end.

Just cause no one ever answered you, a shirt is a specially made, extremely tight shirt that helps provide extra power at the bottom of the press to help get the bar off your chest.

Your saying its easyer to bench heavy when you keep the plates heavy and few of them then say lighter ones further out on the bar??

On the plate Q-I only use the 2.5s to hit the numbers I plan for my workout, otherwise, I don't waste my time with them. Besides, 5lbs is just over 1% of my max... if I can't up by 1% who cares?

I bench probably around 440 right now, but have not worked on it for a month. Working incline (was 415 3+weeks ago) and vertical press more since then

Oh yeah I am about 255-260

By the way buck- good work 275 at 173. 300 soon enough.

Hammer you can do more than 405, lol. You short changing the folks on here.

I did 365 at a bodyweight of 194 about one month ago, it is down a lot since I no longer like to bench. even that was a stretch since I like incline better... Then again I am all fast twitch fiber
