What supps. are good before sleep

i herd that ZMA helps release more testosterone. Is there any that will give you better deeper sleep, or better recovery, or help you release more gh. Im not to sure of these but I think ZMA is zinc magnesium and somthing esle right.

What are good ammounts of what suppliments to aid in sleep and recovery and or anything else good for you.

ZMA is supposed to aid in recovery, maximize (not really increase) T levels (due to a deficiency in zinc and magnesium) and help you sleep better, apparently a deeper sleep is noticed when using ZMA (although I do not understand how this occurs). To release more gh, l-arginine and l-dopa are supposed to be effective, as is glutamine. ZMA is zinc, magnesium, and vitamin B6 (or is it B12? i forget now)
 
definately Glutamine......i also take 1 scoop of whey protien,some people say casienate,(whey is best,no matter when taken, i feel)with 6-8oz on 2% milk right before bed,these 2 pretty important.
 
bigmodean, as long as ur mixing ur whey with milk (which has casein anway) then it's ok but you do want a protein blend as opposed to straight whey before bed as you want slower uptake of nutrients
 
Yes you want the Whey and Casein mix.

You could also look at GABA, raises HGH levels and has a mild seditive effect. It is no longer available here in the UK but you can probably get it over where you are.

GABA may work but you'll need huge amounts of it (a few grams )
 
I forgot, If you can find tryptophan it will defenitively help
 
Remember not to mix milk and your zma as it will interfere with the zinc absorbtion. I have noticed totally different effects taking zma with and without calcium foods.
 
I take zma about 30 minutes before hittin the hay... then right before before sleep i drink a protein shake w/ 5 gram of glutamine, or a big peice of chicken breast and sum gluatime
 
how long have u guys been on melatonin? I have been taking it daily for 2 years now. Anyone know for long term if there is any side effect. I am depend on it now. Love the good sleep.
 
ZMA = marketing hype
A homemade Zinc + magnesium + B6 combo will work as well
and, no, it does not raise Testosterone level

GABA : useless unless you take huge doses (a few grams)
forget it

Melatonin : works for some, no effect on others
Pretty good for jet lag
and there is no proven seconf effects if you take it on the long term (1 to 5 mg)
 
ZMA

I found it takes the ZMA awhile to have quality sleep. Valerian is great although sometimes it leaves me w/ a "sleep-hangover".

ZMA is total hype. If you think it did something for you, it was placebo.

Glutamine can not be absorbed orally. If you think it did something for you it was placebo too .

GABA in large doses will cause flushing and nervousness.

Melatonin lowers thyroid output and lowers testosterone.

Valerian smells like ass.

how do you feel about: a cal-mag-zinc combo and l-arginine

It's the first time I read that melatonin lowers T ....

BTW what would tou recommend for a good (natural) night sleep ?
 
those of you who take ZMA (all it is is zinc, Magnesium and B6. why not just buy them separately from a health or drug store. You will save a shit load of cash and actually get more of each. In zma there is hardly any b6, so its useless. So basically you are paying a tone of cash for simple zinc and magnesium. The drug store near my house sells a calcium 333mg, magnesium 176mg, and zinc 20mg combo for 8 bucks (Canadian) 100 caplets. 3 of those before bed and im getting more of each than in the recommended dose of zma. this will last me over a month. Not bad.
Some say it does not do shit. Hey I like it. I find that I only need 6 hours of sleep and I feel like I just had 9. wake up feeling like a million bucks. I used to have a real hard time getting up in the morning, could sleep forever, now after 6 7 hours Im wide awake

I also take a b complex in the morning to get all my b vits. this gives me 75 mgs of each b vit.
 
Don't take calcium with zinc - in fact, don't take zinc within 30-60 minutes of dairy products. I've heard that the calcium inhibits the zinc absorption.

I like melatonin, but I don't take it much because of the studies that show that it reduces LH output the following day.

1 gm of gaba will make me very sleepy - but only after feeling like I'm on fire and can't breathe for about 30 minutes!

P7 helps me with sleep, but you've gotta go with it - don't take it and expect to feel like you've popped 1mg xanax, it just helps you relax. If you try P7, make sure you wash and scrub the application site beforehand, it really helps absorption.
