what should I expect to pay for kickboxing classes?

I'm looking to sign up for a kickboxing class. I'm mainly looking for some sort of physical activity with a social interactive aspect to keep me out of the house, off my ass and away from booze during the week (now that school is over). I went to check out a kickboxing place near my house the other day, but it turned out to be more of an "aerobic" workout place. They basically have like 30 heavy bags set up on the floor, and you have an instructor in the front taking you through what they call a "kick boxers work out". Nonetheless I'm going to go take a "free" class tonight to check it out (tons of chicks and I have no problem being one of few or even the only guy in the class). This place charges like $85 per month, which seems a litle high, they do have weights and some equipment but I'm not looking to change gyms right now. So I'd be paying the fees on my gym on top of this.

What do regular kickboxing gyms, dojo's or whatever they're called usually charge?

Well if you join the Karate studio it is $60.00 a month... that is around here....I pay about $60 for 8 weeks (one times a week)....cheaper to join and take the other classes but I can't fit the time in right now! i love it though

It depends what you are looking for. I've paid between 80-125 a month. On the lower end it was sort of like a ghetto boxing gym and the training wasn't very good. On the high end it was hardcore training to become an amatuer fighter.

Although I wouldn't mind getting in the ring, I don't think I'm really looking to become an actual fighter (compete). Mostly looking for a workout (conditioning) with some social interaction.

The 85 sounds reasonable if its unlimited classes. At the dojo I trained at it was free for students but he charged 10 a session for others.. or something close. But it was way to expensive IMO.

Make sure the instructor has some type of MA background and not just one of those that took a mail in test (yes they have those) I know you say you aren't stepping in the ring but tecnique is VERY important.
