What should I do....

I need some serious career advice. Ok so I got an offer from a competitor for an outside account executive. I made 70k last year on pace for about 80k this year my base is shit $32, 500. They offered me $50, 000 base with a pretty decent commission structure. Now the thing is I have to get a car if I take this job I don’t really wan t one I live in the city it is more of a pain in the ass then anything. Where I am I am top 20 of 200 where I am going I got to start all over. It is a big risk in the current economic environment I could win big or I could lose big.

Thats candians dollars ?
Cost of living and taxes are high as hell.

Def factor in the cost of car ,car insurance, parking in the city , gas and other expenses that go with owning car.

That raise from 32k to 50k maybe not be a raise at all if it cost you 18k a year in car payments, insurance ,gas plus your time on the road.
Do the math and see how it turns out.

I took a job a few years ago 1 1/2 hour away from home vs a job 5 minutes away. I breaking even or making very little more then working 5 minutes away I also lost 3 hours aday on the roads becuase gas went from $1.09 in 2003 to $ 2.40 2005 in less that two years.
The cost of driving ate into the profit.

what's your reason or motivation for wanting to leave the current job?

We can talk about that offline if you could get me in good I would make it worth your while more then karma ;)

what the...move to Chicago then you can have my bidness.

Not worth the risk for such a modest raise in base salary, IMO. Let alone the extra expense of a car payment and insurance/gas/maintenance. Stay where you are until the overall economic picture is brighter.
