Hormone production, more calories, joint cushioning, deliciousness

umm ok. could the more good fats your eat the more hormones u can produce?

I have read that 30% is the optimal portion of calories from fat for maximizing testosterone production. A higher saturated to polyunsaturated fat ratio is better, and it is beneficial to get some monounsaturated fat for health reasons.

The optimal macronutrient ratio for test production is probably about 55% carbohydrate, 15% protein and 30% fat. And of course overfeeding is sure to increase testosterone production.

Certain fats improve insulin sensitivity and insulin sensitivity is much lower on a very low fat diet. I also feel like fat just gives me more energy.

This is exactly what I've been wondering. You'd think when bulking and thus eating lots of carbs that also eating a relatively large ratio of fat would result in more fat storage than if one kept fat low.

When they talk about maximising testosterone production in the presence of a 30% fat ratio, does that have any relevance at all for female bodybuilders?

OH! I just noticed what you said about insulin sensitivity on a low fat diet, plornive. Would that account for greater fat storage on a high(er) carb bulk diet?

SteelWeaver,
I don't really know if that is why, but it would seem so. The liver will produce fatty-acids on its own if very low fat is eaten anyway. I'm not really sure how much or what types of fatty acids...

It's good to start off with a good balance, then if I feel hyperinsulinemic or feel like blood sugar is fluctuating too much, eat more fat. If I feel like my stomach is always too full then maybe switch to more carbs.
