What! No more reduced speeding fines?

What, Florida Peeps! No more reduced speeding fines?

Just got off the phone with Santa Rosa County, FL. I got a speeding ticket for 70 MPH in a 45 MPH three weeks ago. The cop checked on the ticket (actually, a fish & wildlife guy) "Failure to obey traffic control device" rather than speeding to reduce my fine to $180.50, rather than have the Reckless driving added for 20mph over the speed limit.

Anyhoo, as of October 1, Electing traffic school does not reduce your fine 15%. I have to pay $186.50 to keep the points off my license then show the certificate of completion of traffic school within 90 days. Or I could pay $180.50, the points go on my license, I complete traffic school, show the Certificate and the points are removed. Since the computer program isn't updated, I can't add the $6 online, I have to either go down to the Clerks office in that county or have a notarized affidavit of election to take Traffic School sent to the clerk with my mailed payment.

Anyway, how did they sneak this new law in? Never heard a word about it.

Damn, and I never even complained about your homoerotic hiking expeditions...

Oh and by the way, I still paid less of a fine for the "failure to obey Traffic control device" than if I would have gotten ticketed for 25MPH over the Speed Limit, so the officer did do me a favor.

It's a racket. Sure, we should have traffic laws, but make no mistake, it's big business.

Funniest thing is he catches up to me at 70 mph on a busy road, while he is towing a riding mower on this tiny trailer behind his Expedition and I'm the one being unsafe.

In New Hampshire they don't check ID's at the traffic school. They just have you sign in. When I went the guy said "make sure to write the name of the person who is supposed to be here".
My old roommate paid some highschooler $40 to go for him. It was an hour course.
