The house and 2 cars alone, along with the insurance relevant to each, is pushing $7,500. (It's mostly the house)

Other bills - electric and water - a few hundred total, plus landscapers at about the same amount.

Beyond that, I eat out 21 times a week, and I don't go to Applebees or TGI Fridays...

That's most of it right there.

BTW the cars are modest: A Saturn and a Lexus. The house is about 6000 sq ft on the water in Florida. Most of that is the house.

the demolition of the existing structure was a bitch because I wanted to avoid harming the foundation. Also I am turning the garage into a media room because of superior acoustics....so it wasn't a complete knockdown. Did it that way for permitting reasons.

Adding to the foundation and joining it to what is there has proved to be only moderately difficult (it's concreete block work, we aren't launching rockets here) - I think the guy doing the excavation was actually drinking while operating the machinery, but hey, that's construction.

Unfortunately, adding to the existing foundation has sent the truss guys into convulsions....we've had to do soil borings among other unforeseen stuff to demonstrate that the load bearing capabilities will be the same throughout the new structure.

It's been an adventure.

Wow, it sounds like it. Are you still going with the same design as you originally were talking about (the 3 story)?

That hasn't changed, nor has my resolve to see this thing through. The dry season here is Oct-Nov so I hope to get most of the framing done, close it up, get the roof done etc. Once that's done, I can get several different trades on the inside all at once: pluimbing, electric, HVAC etc will all go very fast.

After that it;s just finishing...I have patience for the finishing, because I can live in it while that is happening.
