What is the Best Rap Music Artist.

Fast Twitch Fiber said:
P.M. Dawn was pretty good. He's more hip hop than rap but some of his songs are rap. LL Cool J or RUN DMC are probably my faves.

DMC was pretty good. I think Tone Loc had some good stuff too. I mean it has got to have catchy music just not clever lyrics.

Curling can't be serious, most of the groups mentioned so far are pure garbage

Best, there is no best, their are great ones but no best.

RZA
GZA
Digable Planets
Mobb Deep
Eric B and Rakim
KRS
Killah Priest
Nas (first album)
Black Moon
Black Star
Common
Del
Organized Konfusion
De La Soul
Tribe Called Quest
Brand Nubian
Souls of Mischief
Gangstarr
Kool G Rapp
Gravediggaz
OGC
Heltah Skeltah
Capone and Noriega
Cappadonna
and many more

This list is cat urine.

Any list that includes Noriega among talented rap artists must lead us to a conclusion that the list-maker has no affilaition with rap, did a google search for "tired rap acts" or else was "just bullshittin".

Gotta love a black moon reference there, good shit, humorous in its "recorded in a basement" style, but "best" or "talented", that's silly talk.

There is also a serious WuTang bias here, yeah they were great, Cappadonna is a shitstain on Wu-Greatness; clearly you typed him in there under the influence of something.

Excluding 2pac is silly. Notorious BIG may have been too commerical for your tastes, he also had some excellent skills. No mention of Redman, bizarre. Jay-Z?

Freddie Foxx? The original underground hardcore rapper?

Lastly, Eminem has more lyrical skill than your entire list collectively, sadly he is way too commerical, but, can't blame someone for making a fortune.

Get a time machine. This list smells like 1996.

Hmm, rap music? Is that were the dudes TALK (not actually sing) into a fk'n mic? Don't get me wrong I love the rhymes they put out but that's not music, that's poetry/lyrics, when I'm hyper I can outtalk Twista like he's just learning to speak I just can't rhyme.
I don't know (and I don't give a fuck) if Usher and R.Kelly are rap artists, but not only they have amazing/mellifluous voices, but their choreography is also stunning - I've seen them both live :o
At the club though, you can find me on the trance/techno floor, I only go to hip hop floor when it's some dude's afterparty (been to Jay-Z, R.Kelly, Fabulous, Lil' Jon and numerous numerous more)!

House of Pain? You gotta be kidding me. They have some ok songs but the best of all time? That's like me saying Living Colour was the greastest hard rock band ever.

2pac = The best there ever was in rap

other greats Biggie, Nas, Eminem, Rakim, Dr. Dre (for his beats)

Wu-tang is definitely near the top (Meth is my fav of the group I think)...tupac and biggie of course. Eminem has got to be there too, the kid's a fuckin genius. I'm starting to like Jay-Z more and more...the take over was hot (the one where he ranks on nas).

Who else is there...oh yeah, Rakim (as someone mentioned) has some solid lyrics, good beats. Believe it or not, Sticky Fingaz made one of my favorite albums (Autobiography of Kirk Jones).

Can't believe no one said Dre and Snoop...another one of my fav albums is doggystyle...not a bad track on there.

DMX had a good run...for a little while at least...there are still some remnants of him on my playlist.

So the best:

Wu-tang
Tupac
Old Snopp Doggy Dogg
Biggie
Dre
Eminem (he'd be in the top 3, but he still has to prove he can sustain it over the long run).

That's just a rough draft, they're not necessarily in that order (but Wu is definitely at the top).

I said Dre in the post above you but you probably didn't catch it since you were likely typing as I wrote it. I didn't say Snoop because he's made some ok CDs but he's never come close to Doggiestyle. Although he last CD was pretty good but Doggiestyle is one of the if not the best rap albums ever made.

Yep...didn't catch your post. I agree, doggystyle was rediculous...and his new shit sucks IMO. That's why I don't think he should be mentioned too close to the top.

And you're right on with Dre being up there because of his beats as well.

Tupac is probably the best single rapper...but as a whole, Wu-Tang's got him IMO.
