my company's IT guy comes around my office every day to say hi.

wait. i think i mentioned this. i can't remember. he says some slightly innapropriate things, but i do NOT encourage it in any way, nor do i tell him he's gross. I'm totally unreadable. anyway, today i get an email from him that says, "look on your desktop".

i look and there's a song on there that I didn't put there.

"one hot momma" by some country guy.
it was a sexual song. something about being hot and once the kids go to sleep we're gonna turn things up.

what??

i don't know what to say, so i replied, "I never heard of him before"

and an hour later I get an email from him that says, "tip of the iceberg"
and nothing more.
does that mean that song is just good and i haven't heard anything yet, or is he coming on to me?
because I don't want that. and I'm not fostering it. i don't even know what to say- i seem to be unable to joke with this guy without him taking me seriously or thinking i'm encouraging things, so i'm serious and... a little moody.

what do i do?
 
You could easily have his bitch ass fired why dont you do it. His game sucks anyhow and anyman whose game sucks as bad as his deserves to get shitcanned.

well, he's never around his superior, and saying something like that to someone you've been friendly towards is hard.

i think i'll wait until the next thing he says and say "you better not be coming on to me"
hopefully he'll ask why not and i'll say because i don't want you to.

and leave it at that. I don't mind any language or conversation, as long as it's not directed at getting me into sechs.

i would just ask him if he was the kid that ran the film projector in elementary school--that should be enough for him to realize his chances are a bit less than zero
 
Speaking as an attorney you need to notify your first level supervisor and get something in writing. If it continues then file a formal EEO complaint.

In case you hadn't noticed by the boyz' e-behavior round these parts, your mere presence in the same state with him automatically means YOU WANT HIM and that you are an attention whore of epic proportions.

The only reasonable course of action would be to kill yourself. After all HIS BEHAVIOR is 100% YOUR FAULT.

Now the real world adult answer? The guy clearly has his own reality so nothing short of you very straight out telling him (I would also put this in writing to protect yourself down the line) that this behavior of his is not welcome or warranted. You can also let him know that you have no clue where his ideas came from but you do not find them funny, matter of fact they make you feel VERY uncomfortable and you would appreciate it - actually that is a PC way of demanding - that he would stop. PERIOD.

I understand how you feel. I used to feel the same way you did, until I got jumped on by one too many assholes for being "nice" that way.

You goddamn attorneys make me sick... Just tell the guy that you are not comfortable with his actions towards you and he will stop, at least warn the guy. Any reasonable person would stop at that point... If he continues, .... well then, he's just stupid.
 
ok, so today he came by my office again. We chatted for a while- nothing unusual or out of the ordinary.
I mentioned that I can't stand all the spelling errors our human resources dept. makes in their emails and he said to send them to him so he can see if he spots them all. ok. games, i guess. harmless though, so ok.

Then he said, "hey..." and stared at me. eye contact and he looked nervous. My assistant came in and he glanced at her and then back at me. more staring. "um... I'll see you later."

and he quickly turned and left. then i told my assistant she is not to leave me alone even for a minute and we laughed.

I used to get icy if men did that at work. When I was married i would mention in passing that I'm married and would never think of cheating. They usually get the hint.
