I heard the show was awkward, unfunny, and boring from Day #1, but because of the low cost of producing it, and the fact that it was Jay Leno in that slot, they let it run much longer than they should have.

NBC has lost 45% of his 10pm viewers over the last year due to their attempt to cheap out on that hour and avoid building a scripted drama. Leno is out as of 2/12.

It's not that Leno's show was bad...NBC just failed to realize how habitual TV viewership is. People don't want a talk show at 10pm, they want a talk show at 11:30pm. Couple that with Conan being a downgrade from Jay in the eyes of their core late-night audience, and you have a fuckup of epic proportions by NBC. Jay looks bad, Conan gets screwed, and NBC takes a massive ratings hit.

Now it's a big legal mess -- cuz both Leno & Conan signed long contracts worth MILLIONS. Now it's a big lawyer battle to figure out how this will play out. NBC messed up and they know it. Expect heads to roll after this is all resolved.

it's terrible. leno's show sucks. it's not funny and neither is he. i've watched a few episodes and the whole "work for your plug" is absolutely retarded. if i am a guest that is invited on the show, i don't want to play some dumbass game with leno just to talk about the whole reason i even came on the show to begin with.

that and who really wants to watch a talkshow from 10pm to 11pm, news, then more talkshows from 1130pm until 2pm. outside of the office, and maybe 30rock, there is no reason to even watch nbc.

That completely mystifies me as well. The BBC wanted him for their planned Top Gear America show, but he declined it for his bullshit 10pm show that has blown from Day 1. Given the breadth and depth of his knowledge and enthusiasm for cars that would've been a great career move. He would've been doing something still on TV, but totally different from The Tonight Show, but still likely to be popular and successful.

Leno-man: "Meeeaaa that's great I was actually gonna suggest that."


Really, has he not gotten a lot funnier and more relaxed ever since he came clean about banging his staff?
