subaru or audi, I've owned both at one time or another.....both drive exceptional in the snow, both have a similar AWD system which regulates and controls how much power each wheel gets during a slip or slide situation.

I would recommend the Subaru Impreza. Good looking car, awesome AWD, and I can get them under 20grand.

It's a little bit bigger than your 9-3. 4.4 cubic foot more interior room to be exact.

also, subaru's hold on to their value really well in comparison to other makes and models.

I haven't driven one of the newer ones myself yet, but I really like the way they look and have always been impressed with subaru quality.

That one pictured there is an 09 w/4k miles that I can buy for 17,400.
