To reiterate: It is a mistake to confuse homosexuality as identity with homosexual behavior.
It was not until homosexuality was pathologized that it became an identity marker. Because of that, anyone who has sex with a man in this culture ends up being pressured to assume an identity. Homosexual interactions were not incompatible with heterosexual ones in certain periods of the Greek and Roman civilizations and, to some degree, that's still true in the Mediterranean world.
If you read any of the earlier Christian screeds against homosexuality you realize that underlying them is the acknowledgement that sex with members of your own gender is a ubiquitous temptation. The contemporary instantaneous disgust in the face of the idea is pure acculturation of the taboo....which breaks down quite rapidly in certain circumstances, as we all know quite well.
