what are the effects of alcohol

there are no noticeable effects. you might have a bad workout the next day. its extra calories so you have to deal with that. its no big deal.
 
its ok in moderation i guess

but i dont drink, only on v.special occasions

i mean, its a bit silly avoiding simple carbs thru the day (aside from fructose and post workout) just to glug down pint after pint full of them.
 
it has the strange effect of making women seem signifigantly more attractive, and sexually desireable than they actually are. It seems to also be effected by time, ie a direct synergistic effect with the time a bar closes.

Drinking 5 times a year won't hurt you (unless it causes an accident). If you drink occasionally it won't hurt your training.
 
Truthfully, alcohol is one of the first things you should eliminate if you are serious about bodybuilding. If you don't drink a lot it's not a huge problem though. I know that many guys who juice still drink quite a bit, and I think that is very stupid and fairly dangerous.
