My family used to have cocker spaniels when I was young, they all died from heart attacks at an early age, I was a sad boy. Might be why I haven't had any pets since then.

Sorry to hear about the puppy. My wife is often paranoid about our dogs which are lurchers which are often stolen for hunting. I know I'd be devastated if we lost one of them.

Someone stole a pure breed dog I was minding for a friend about 7 years ago from my back yard. I looked for it everywhere but never found it again. It was so difficult breaking the news to my friend that I left it for a couple of months before telling the truth.

That's too cumbersome. They need something they can hide underneath the skin, a la microchip, so if the dog is stolen, they can't trace it and throw it away.
