Way back in '99 I wrote a piece entitled "The History Of The Supplement Business" which was essentially an expose of all the junk and hype out there. Since then I've written about the few compounds I've found to be effective and that's what's gone into the ones I designed.
I haven't really followed what's new in regard to commercial brands because for the most part, they're all overpriced retreads of the same old stuff. But just tonight I took a look at a "bodybuilding" health food store and also checked out some of the muscle mags to see what's new and man, I feel sorry for the guys just starting out. There are literally hundreds of products that are all a bunch of raging bullshit. 20 years after the original suck ass prohormones came out, there are still dozens of phony steroid-like compounds -- one worse than the next, not to mention some of the MuscleTech stuff which spells out the chemical name for things like Alpha lipoic acid and calls it a "cell regenerator" or some creatine product that is a "receptor upregulator." Just when I thought these people couldn't heave any more bullshit on the public they drudge up a little more.
Quick reminder. Supplements are meant to be "health promoting" compounds. They keep the athlete in peak condition so his body can make the most of his training. They can help the natty get an edge and they can help the enhanced guy boost his gains a bit. But with all due respect to my buddy Rick Collins, I think these ridiculous concoctions/chemicals that are pretending to be like steroids should be banned. I'm all for civil liberties but fraud is another thing altogether.
Just needed to rant a bit.
