I went to send some money via Western Union yesterday and was a little shocked when the man behind the counter read out the due amount. I was sending $1665 to Russia, and he told me that total due was $1783. That's damn near $120 just to send money. The only other time I've sent money by WU was to China, and I sent around $700 that time and I think it might have cost me about $6. Does anyone know if there is some reason for it cost so much sending money to Russia when it doens't cost near as much to send it to China? I'm thinking that perhaps the place where I was at charges their own fees on top of the WU fees so that they can make a little extra money. They are also a check cashing place and bill payment center and they charge fees to do all of that. I went to WU website to look for some type of pricing chart but I didn't see one. I couldn't find one at the agent location eithier. Doesn't seem right that they don't let you know how much you have to pay until it's time to pay it. If anyone has any info or experience with this, I'd appreciate hearing it, thanx. BTW, I didn't go through with the transaction, I told the man I was gonna check into that and I'd be back if it was indeed the correct amount that I had to pay to send money.
