Went to a fundraiser last night.. OMG

AAP

Plat Hero
Platinum
So last night OMG I went to like this OMG mixed company fundraiser that I never OMG go to shit like that anyway.

OMG

It was held at a local resturant OMG that the company reserved for the event and it was for Habitat for Humanity with the businesses involved hoping to raise 70K to build the home. OMG

There was raffles and OMG silent auctions.

A total of 14 people showed up. OMG

I bought 20 raffle tickets and won 9 prizes. OMG the other 13 people won just as much loot as I did. OMG

This event really was a wash out. I was thinking that maybe I could change careers and just attend shit like this each week and then run home with my loot and ebay it.

I won the next to Grand Prize (2nd place) which was a 7 night stay at any Marriott anywhere in the world. Then I won a liquor gift basket that was so damn big that it took another person to help me carry out to my car. When I got home and opened it, I understood why it was so damn big... they basically stuck a bunch of shit in there that wouldn't sell well on the shelves. Patron Coffee Liquor, Kahula, some no name Captain Morgan type knockoff, etc... several bottles of each and some vodka that was probably $5.99 for a fifth. Oh well my biggest party is next month adn I will serve this shit to the cheap straighties with no taste anyway.

I won some other little shit like boxes of gift cards, tshirts, theater tickets, etc...

OMG

( I was so disappointed that no one showed up because I think Habitat for Humanity is a worthy cause.)

actually being a "event" manager is where the cash is at, that way if it's a wash, you still get paid

and the gifts.. all donated..

here's an idea for ya, it was done in the 80's in california, but due to changes in laws it's very difficult to do now..

would you purchase a lottery ticket fir $1000 knowing that there were only going to be 5000 sold..

grand prize was a $500,000 house..

or would you pay $500 for a 1 in 10,000 chance to win the house??

Jesus, the event planner needs shot in the head if they only had 14 people come to the auction! Piss poor planning IMO.

BTW- Would you like to fly to Toledo so I can raffle you off at my next charity event for the woman's shelter I support? :)

Actually, they promoted it heavily.

There were 5 companies that promoted it at the businesses (there are 400 employees at our branch alone), it was advertised in the magazines.

I mean, people just simply did not want to show up.

What do you think your 'tickets cost' to 'prize worth' ratio is?

Sign of the times we are upon I fear.

Companies are still VERY willing to make their product donations. However, it appears that the philanthropic(sp?) community is becoming more "pickey" when opening their wallets. Who knows? It's sad none the less.

Perhaps if the government would stop raising my taxes and costs of EVERYTHING much faster than my paycheck raises, I could give more.

It's kinda hard to give money from my pocket when I have big brother cutting holes in my pants.

Wait til "The Change" comes...They'll be dippin into your wine jug full of "change" you got stashed. ;)

I hear you. I feel you. However, you can find ways of helping without giving money too lil aap. You can donate time too ya know. :)

Well the liquor basket was about $400 all together, even though it was cheap liquor (except the Patron). They still had some other shit in there too like mixers and such.

I would guesstimate that 7 nights at a Marriott would be about $1000 - or more if you are staying somewhere like Paris or Rome. (no restrictions here)

Then I got free gift cards from places like Jiffy Lube, FYE (whatever that record store is called), Dilliards, Publix, CVS, Olive Garden, Longhorn, Starbucks, etc..

The theater tickets are about $300 total (3 different events, 2 tix each)

plus some little shit in the other drawings (martini glasses that I will never use, tshirts I can't fit into, Regal Cinema movie tix, etc..)

The raffle tickets were $3 each. So I only paid $60.

One of those residual effects no one takes into consideration when the economy goes bad (charities, etc.)

agree with lil aap, expendable income is really bad right now.

wtf, mixed company? geigh and straight, lib and conservative, race? what the hell are you saying and why would that make any difference in the story?

LOL, you needed help carring a bag, what'd it weigh, 50lbs or so. guess the pics fo the jacked guy were a little old, huhh... lol

lmao at your description of straight friends of yours, at least geihs are better when they are more "out", it gives the "straighties" something to keep taking shots at them about. If they get to mainstream, they're just boring people like the rest of us...

I tried telling you the economy HAD tanked 6 months ago. You turned a blind eye and thought I was crazy.

1 - More than one company/business in the mix

2 - had a large purple bow, was hoping that anyone driving by wouldn't really think it was MINE and that actually I was just helping the other sissy carry it out because he won something with a PURPLE BOW.

3 - NoH84DStr8s. Gotta love a crowd that you can entertain on the cheap and they still think it's awesome. they don't even complain about the paper cups. I don't even splurge for plastic cups for them.

and so what your saying is that gays have better taste in things than str8, you are so fucking closed minded.... I like to use plastic cups, it saves the host the time from clean up, I don't have to have a Waterford glass to drink wine, it doesn't help the taste, that's if I drank. Plus, geighs steal them when your not looking....

Tracki lighting.... hetero invention. that says it all.
I LIKE track lighting, I used to like it on the cieling back in th day, but now I think it looks good on accent areas, paintings, pictures....
wtf's wrong with that?

Marriott prize is pretty cool...since there are no restrictions. I'd definately make use of that on a vacation to a very expensive city.
