Well I purchased some wrist straps......

Being new to bodybuilding and after reading everyones very heated opinions on using straps, I decided to give them a try; wow, what a difference they make. I found that on my back day:

deadlifts 5x5
barbell bent over rows 2x8
pull ups
barbell shrugs 2x8
rear delt raises 2x8
calf raises 4x15

my grip would start to give out after giving my all on the the deadlifts. Using straps has allowed me to increase my weight on both the bent over rows and shrugs while improving form. I have also decided to throw in some grip/forearm work to make up some for using them. I know some might view them as a crutch, but for me they seem to fit in well with were I am at now in my training program.

The last sentence in your post is what it`s all about and you hit the nail on the head. Its about what works for YOU.
Thats all that matters and it holds complete precedence over everything else..........

i would reccomend only using them when you have to. Use them as equipment, not a crutch and they will work a lot better for you.

If you do this then one day you wont need them. Keep up the hard work bro !!

I use them only when I need them. I don't use them for my warmup sets, but when those weights get heavy I need the straps to focus on my back and not my grip.
