He's sending Susan Rice (the chick who blamed the Libya attack on a video) to brief lawmakers about the Syrian situation on the one-year anniversary of the Benghazi terrorist attack.

Why can't he show that kind of balls when it comes to Russia or China? He shouldn't safe all hiss ballsy moves for Congress.
 
So does this mean Putin get the Nobel Prize for averting American bombing of Syria?
 
My question is why didnt obama think of something like this before running off the mouth about bombing syria? He seems like the kind of guy that would avoid looking like bush at all costs, and certainly would avoid bombing little ol' syria. Now putin saves the day with a peaceful resolution? I dont get it

His original comments about Syria's red line were off-script. He did it off the cuff. The NYT reported that even his staff was shocked. And the day after the gaffe, his administration was given the chance to walk-back the comments and Barry didn't.

This will be the first bombing in history caused by the lack of a teleprompter.

BTW, Syria never signed an international treaty against the use of chemical weapons. The cluster munitions ban became force of law in 2010 by international treaty for the same reasons chemical weapons are banned....is Barry a war criminal for using cluster munitions? The irony of potentially using internationally banned weapons to destroy internationally banned weapons.

Uh, he did. Obama and Putin have been talking about this "solution" for month. This isn't something that just sprung fully-formed from John Kerry's forehead last week.

They havent been talking about shit. Otherwise the media would have been all over it so obama could at least in part take credit for a peaceful resolution in syria. All weve heard from obama have been war drums. Putin show up with the best solution for peace and now obama looks like a fool.

I think Obama has handled this whole situation pretty horribly, but youre retarded if you think all Obama has been about has been "war drums." If the guy wanted to strike he wouldnt have brought the issue to congress. I think that was (mistakenly) what he though was a master political move: If Congress votes for it, they are on the hook for sending the US to war. If they vote it down, they are in favor of Assad killing kids with sarin. Didnt work out that way.

Really reinforces the hyper-partisan nature of this country (or at least the immature portion of the population) when people bitch about who gets "credit" when we should be thankful that an opportunity to keep us out of another conflict is being seriously considered.

Yea going to congress and getting an overwhelming vote for war really worked out well for bush. Obama was facing a majority of congress voting him down on going to war, which is a first for an American president by the way. Obama is a weak leader who knew he had the power to go to war without congressional approval but punted it to congress anyway in an attempt to blame it on those meanie republicans either way it went. Just like his punting of the implementation of Obamacare until conveniently after the 2014 elections. As far as credit goes, Obama/Kerry are going to be the first to claim all the credit. I dont see obama praising putin for this "masterstroke". And dont be naive to think washington and obama dont care who gets credit as long things work out in the end. Who said "Never let a good crisis go to waste"? It was Obamas Boy, Rahm I beleive. Its politics and image and perception always matters.

I thought you cleared up that whole going-to-war-without-congressional-approval-is-constitutional-afterall thing for us all? Its a nice gesture obama wanted to go to congress first but lets not kid ourselves as to the reasoning for it. And lets face it, the constitution has been trashed for at least 40 years and Im not holding my breath for obama to suddenly make it relevant again with scandals like NSA, IRS. At least the states are beginning to tell the fed govt to fuck off so they can each make the constitution relevant again.
Obama now proves both parties are the same, surely you can now see that? The Chosen One committed the Cardinal Sin of wanting to needlessly go to war in the mideast and now he gets his well deserved comeuppance. Both parties are addicted to middle east meddling and the only cure for this addiction is oil independence from the middle east. Until then expect more of the same from the next president and the one after that.

Both parties are very, very different - but that doesnt make them less horrible. Just horrible in their own respective ways.

Again, I think Obama knows he boxed himself in with the red line comment a year ago, but him taking it to congress (after the Brits turned it down) makes it pretty clear he was using Congress as a way to get out of going war. Him completely embracing the "OMG Obummer looks weak!!" idea further supports that theory.

Doesnt matter if the groups were denied or not, they were specifically targeted based on political affiliation, therefore making their individual process to claim tax exempt status more difficult, even if ultimately they were granted. Dont see how anyone could be ok with that. Would you be ok if the DMV made you complete more paperwork and jump through more hoops because youre a democrat? I dont think so.

The parties arent that different. Both love to go to war, both love spending everyone else's money, albeit differently. Both want to take away freedoms by passing law after law. I may seem to doublespeak but Im very consistent. Im just a pro-choice, pro-drug, pro-constitution, anti-tax, gun-toting white dude married to a mexican lady (hows that for diversity).
Im against whoever is in power because the less government has free reign over, the better. If there is a dem pres, I want a dem congress and vice versa. Government fucks up everything it is in control of.

The IRS targeted both conservative and progressive groups for potentially exploiting a tax loophole they shouldnt be entitled to. At the end of the day, the only 2 (or 3) groups that were ever denied tax exempt status were progressive groups. But yes, tell me more about this IRS scandal in which tea party groups were the victim.

Well Im getting my news from CNN (left lean) and yes, FOX (right lean). Since I dont have time to hit 20 different media outlets I will say that the IRS targeting anyone for political affiliation is obviously wrong.

Back on topic, Obama gets to backtrack from his red line without losing too much face (except with those who dislike him for whatever reason anyway), Assad gets to stick around a while longer, Russia buys an ally time without having to directly confront the US, and there probably won’t be any more extensive chemical attacks in Syria.

Make no mistake about it though, a new precedent has been set, or more likely an existing one affirmed. Namely, chemical weapons use in intra-state conflicts will not bring about serious repercussions from the international community.

Win-win for everyone except the Syrian people.

2) The ratio of targeting matters. It's all about proportion. Using the logic the IRS is hiding behind, the Grand Wizard of the KKK could make a couple of comments like "white trash rednecks" and they wouldn't be a racist organization anymore, since they targeted both blacks and whites.

I guess I would maybe agree however the vast vast influx of these groups that were trying to claim these tax exemptions were unfortunately belonging to one specific ideology. Once that the SC ruled on that issue it was a tidal wave of groups that sought the new exemption, they just happened to have been tea party groups. Despite all that, they only accounted for 1/3 of the total groups audited that were politically motivated. Did you know that?
 
Media Matters is an IRS tax exempt organization.
