Weighted Vests: Who uses one?

Anyone have a recommendation as to a quality weighted vest? The only two companies seem to be V-Max and X-Vest.

The V-Max goes up to 100 lbs and uses 2.5 lb increment blocks.

Whereas the X-Vest only goes up to 84 lbs in 1 lb increment cylinders. This brand seems to be used for firefighting and military training.

They both cost about the same amount. Anyone use either model, or have any opinions? Are there other brands out there that are available in the 80-100+ lb range?

damn, that's some hardcore shit.

i'd imagine people in the military would use those.

considering their packs usually weigh 50-75 lbs

Marching with a 70-something pound pack on one's back would be harder. These vests are pretty symetric and fit well over the upper body, so there isn't the stress and fatigue that comes with military packs.

I've used a cheaper 40 lb. vest for years, but I'm looking for something a bit heavier. I've never seen anyone wear one before, either, so I figure I'd post here, lol.

I've used a weighted backpack for cardio, on the elliptical, and done a few long walks with it outdoors, too (no hundred pounds though :worried: you're a freaking brute!) Works the shit out of your core and glutes. I would imagine that a vest would be much more pleasant, a backpack really starts to hit you in the traps and shoulders after a while.

I'm lugging 220 lbs around, no need for a weighted vest on cardio. I'd like to get one to do pushups with.

There was a dude from iceland who used to post here who had some seriously funny stories about a wieghted vest.

Get pregnant. You will have at least 30 pounds wrapped up around your torso to lug around. It's FUN!

I've used a 40lb one for doing press ups and pull ups..i wanted to be able to do more reps than the big guys who say they can't do many because of their weight (which is bs....they just aren't fit or strong enough).

Originally i also wanted to use it for running but mine wadn't good for this as it was a cheap vest of ebay and the material started stretching so that it would hit your knees when running. Make sure you pay a bit more to get a nice compact vest that won't stretch under the weight of 70lbs.

forget the vest, just get a bunch of plastic bags, some rope, some duct tape, and hundreds of little stones.

also, try some AIDS.

I use the X for all my chins, pulldowns, and seated rows. The construction is great and the weights are balanced. And it makes a huge difference to be weighted down on any movement that wants to drag you up or forward.

I used to start my chins with body weight. Now I have the vest loaded at 50 lbs and that has become my first set.

Little tricky getting it on and off. I use one arm of a dipping bar like a hanger to get it on and off.

One of my back routines requires I wear it for 10 sets of 3 diff exercises. It is surprising how dam heavy that thing gets as you walk around and change plates and pins.

No it's not bullshit. I can't do near as many pullups as when I was 30 lbs. lighter and I'm stronger now than then.

you guys need to do a search on these forums for "weighted vest fag:... One of the best threads ever. I cant find it with the shitty search function im limited to.

I have ankle weights for leg raises, but for weighted pull ups - I use an old climbing harness and some caribeeners to clamp to some weights - of course this is my home gym - so I can do as I please.

It is bs in a way though. If you're heavier than why not just train your body to be able to cope with the extra weight that you have to carry around. I can do more chin ups with a 40lb vest on than most 210lb+ in the guys in the gym easily...and my arms aren't particularly big either.

When i do pull ups in the gym i always get the bigger blokes looking at me as though i can only do them cos i'm lighter (some have even said lol)...it's funny to be able to tell them that i can do plenty with a vest on too.
