Hey everyone, just had a few questions. First of all I only weigh 145 and I have tried everything to gain weight but I cant. I know there are other hardgainers out their and just was wondering if anyone can help me out because I would like to put on some mass. Also can anyone reccomend a good natrual stack that has worked for them, I am tired of blowing money on crap that doesnt work. Any help aprreciated...

Do this:

Read the Bench Press, Squat, and Deadlift stickies in the Powerlifting forum.

Read this on caloric excess as a requirement to gain weight:

Now train and eat. Screw all supplements besides some basic vitamins and a protein shake. Consume some calories, prove it to yourself. If it's Kentucky Friend Chicken, so be it. Double Whoppers - fine, it doesn't have to be clean it just has to be more than your body needs. You don't get fat overnight (and from what you are saying you can't seem to gain muscle or fat) so if you notice a lot of fat gain, just scale back a bit. With good training and enough food there are few people on the planet who can't gain.

you would ba amazed at the people that think if you do some gear, you dont have to workout hard and that it just comes on like magic

eat big, get big. at your size if you're working hard and not gaining around 1 lbs / 2 weeks you're not stuffing your face as often as you should. it's not all in the suppliments.

Few on the planet, huh? Do you actually know people who can't add muscle? That would be interesting.
I saw a video one time about a circus freak guy who consumed north of 10K calories a day and still could not gain any muscle and hardly any weight. Not sure but I figure it's always best to include a little disclaimer in case this guy has a future as a carny or some such :)

However much you think your eating, its not enough. I was once your weight and I couldnt figure out why I wasnt gaining. I thought I was eating so much. Come to find out, I had to double what I was eating in order to gain anything. Your diet will play the biggest factor in your weight gaining. It took me several years to figure that out.

i agree with what everyone's been saying...just stuff your face like every 3 hours, I'm a pretty bad ectomorph and I have to eat just about every 2 hours to maintain not to mention gain...and although what madcow says about eating everything including fast food may seem counterintuitive at first it will work and just scale back accordingly if you do gain lots of 'bad' weight...eat, train, sleep...

yeah man. I was 5'11 145 for like all of highschool. when I came to college I finally read that, oh yeah, you have to eat more to gain weight.

Well. I went to TOWN on the eating. Scourge of the dining hall. And sure enough, I gained 15 pounds my first semester, and still have all of it now.

If you wanna gain weight I seriously recommend eating a lot of WHOLESOME SOLID foods. Try to cut back on shakes and refined crap, that aint gonna get you muscle. Eat enough so that by your next meal, you're still full from the last...yup, that's a sure way of doin it.

I had the same problem a few years ago. I was eating 8 small meals a day - barely 2200 cals per day - but clean food. I took 1 meals and replaced it with a weight gain shake - not the full amount of 2500 cals in one shot - but I got it to around 800 cals and that was my post workout meal. It made all the difference in the world. You gotta train like crazy, as well; esp. the big muscles - legs, chest & back. Read the info Madcow recommends and you'll learn a lot.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I recorded my caloric intake today and was kinda suprised that it was only 2550 Cals (There were a few things I didnt count because they didnt have a label, Deli Meats, Fruits and such) and 120+- a few grams of protien. I have been hearing 1.5 Grams of protien per pound of body weight so I got to start eating alot more. MadCows training program looks great so I am starting it. Further suggestions or anything, fire away. Thanks guys...

Honestly, you only need one gram of protein per pound of bodyweight. Your body can't utilize much more, unless you're taking AS, in which case you're better off using extra protein.

Don't worry so much about the macronutrients, just try to get in a lot of clean, wholesome calories. It's true you don't need to have them clean, but for overall health and longevity, you may as well try. Fill the remainder of calories you need with unclean foods, since chances are, you won't be able to eat 3500+ calories from clean food. Not without being extremely rigid and discipline.

Yes, eating more will help. I was eating 3500 calories at 140lbs trying to pack on muscle. I ate clean though. Think of adding complex carbs at breakfast (oatmeal), lunch meal (Sweet Potato) and post-workout (shake w/ protein/carb mix)...this will also help. No deli-meat, that's really just garbage food. I know my bro, Quadsweep would almost get sick at some of his meals, just because they were so huge - just stuff it in until it hurts. Believe it or not - with the increased intensity of your training and the additional food over time your body will adapt. The human body is an amazing thing. At some point down the road eating 3500cals/day will not be enough. Take care and grow big!

Thanks once again guys, your advice is great! Usually you got to pay people to tell you stuff like this. Anyway, I stuffed my face today and added up all the calories I had labels for and was well over 4500. I feel like I just had thanksgiving dinner twice...I will keep you guys posted on my results...

Heh, I know that feeling. After recalculating my calories I found out I needed another 1000 per day. So the first day I just gorged myself.

After dinner my stomach felt so full, I had to unbotton the top button of my pants lol..I guess all that was missing was sliding back in the chair and shoving my hands in the front of my pants.

My wife said my stomach felt 'like a water balloon'.
