Website to track progress

I'm a web developer by profession and haven't been able to find a good free/cheap place to track progress and goals for training/diet. So I'm gonna toss up a web application to allow me to track those things. I'm looking for some input on what types of features ya'll would like to see as I plan on opening it up as a free service for anyone to privately or publicaly track their progress while on any training program, diet, AAS cycle, supplement cycle, etc.

Here are the features i'm planning on so far:

Things to track:
  • Measurments (chest, arms, legs, neck, etc)
  • Weight/Reps/Sets lifted
  • Weight
  • Bodyfat/and similar calculations (with various calculators)
  • Record diet (maybe find a database to link in to find out nutritional info)
  • Medical info (bloodwork before and after a cycle)
  • AAS Cycle or supplements

Provide a way to set goals and subgoals with milestones along the way.

Provide a method for users to create a training program that will automatically print out worksheets listing the exercises, reps, sets, weights to use etc each week depending on the program and data entered (example would be the 5x5 program).

Maybe setup something to create a competition with a prize at the end for weight loss/gain between friends or groups

This is all I can think of right now. I'm going to begin on it this week. If anyone has any suggestions please post them here. If you would like to help give me a PM.

Also, anyone have an idea for a domainname?

Sounds great (a lot of work though!). A sort of one stop shop for all you body building requirements!.

The only thing I did notice in "Things to track" was that you didn't put tracking the actual weights lifted (I assume the bullet point "weight" was body weight).

I think some people on here provide links to websites which offer calorie counting so they maybe able to help there.

I do like the idea of being able to source a 'sample' workout for all the recomended work outs. It gives people a firm base of which to tweek.

Domain is registered and all setup on my webserver.

I should have something to show for in a week or so.

Cyrex I am a web usability analyst and would volunteer some time to help you with navigation and functionality if you would like. I could help you while you are in staging before you launch. Let me know and this is great idea and service to offer. Send me a PM.

thanks. :-)

Anyone think something like this would be usefull?
If so, what features do you need?
If not, why?

Actually I think this is a great idea. I try and track all my stuff on my own, in Excel, and it's a pain. I don't knwo how to write programs or websites, so it's the best I could do, but a professional version is definately something I would use, religiously too.

This may sound silly and somewhat simplistic, but would it be possible to have a readout of future stats if you increase at a linear rate.
eg-Say you currently lift 150lb and you are increasing at 2.5lb a week, prehaps you could display the projected lifts at 6-12month intervals assuming you increase at the same rate, which would 215lb and 280lb respectively in this case. You might also try a similiar system for weight loss/gain,maybe even predictions of bodyfat percentage based on the amount of muscle/fat that is lost or gained.

Sorry if it sounds like a silly idea but it probably would be useful to many people.

of course asdfzxcv!
I will definately have reporting, projection, charts, graphs etc as part of the app. Any specifics like that are great to hear. If anyone wants to be involved in the project with me send me a PM i'm opening for any and all suggestions.

I use good old fashion paper and pen. However after viewing a few members journals in this section I was thinking about creating one.

Regarding the future trends...

Through my personal logs and tracking on Excel, plotting my results (lifts) have shown that I don't have a linearly increase in strength. In my experiences, my results are linear in the beginning, parabolic for some exercises, but all eventually almost flatten out having a very small slope, after about 6 weeks of gains.

This may not be the case for everyone, and not to rain on any parades, as I am all for a "future projections" section, it just may lack in accuracy.

parabolic?
unless it's inversely parabolic, that would mean you get worse over time and then take a turn for the better eventually.

now inversley logrithmic would be exactly what one would expect :-)

Man this sounds like a great idea i always loose the paper im tracking my stuff on! Wish there was some way i could help unfortunatly im not to great at html or any of that stuff.

Maybe we could be test pilots! We could try out the beta versions pre launch. :)

I have a paper record of every workout I've ever done (ok, I'm only on week 78), even though I might maintain a journal on here too, and I wouldn't change that for anything. I find the little comments I write in the margins are often as useful as the main information ('tweaked my back a little bit today' was a good one). And the amount of scribbling out reflects my mood and uncertainty at the time.

However, that's not to say it won't be useful to a lot of people. I'd want an export to xml function so I could keep my own backup and play with it if I so desired.

On projecting future gains, I tried that in my journal. It's depressing :)

hehe
I do plan on having an area for journal entries and comments on a per workout basis, per meal, daily, excercise, etc

yep I'll have something in there to track cardio as well.
Eventually maybe sports specific workouts too
