At work today somebody walked in our office (6th floor of high rise) carrying a box under his arm, right past the front desk guy, went directly to my boss' office, stole the only laptop in the office and walked right back out ....not a word to anyone. One guy who happened to see him leaving followed him down the hall, called him out and the guy bolted. Gone In 60 Seconds. The only people who ever come in are delivery/maintenance people.
The kicker is my boss had just left the office about 10 min earlier. He SAW the guy around the lobby and thought he looked suspicious so he comes back to the office because he didn't want to get in the elevator with the guy, he checks the office door then gets in the elevator. The thief came back a few minutes later. He HAD to have known
1. that was my boss and his office was now empty.
2. that maintenance people are in all the time because he was dressed like one (a few have quit/been fired lately)
3. Where the office he wanted was...its at the far far end of the hall.
4. There was a laptop in there
This stinks of inside job. Two weeks ago he and his wife (both my bosses) were robbed at knife point (okay, box cutter point) in the parking garage. He got a couple hundred bucks then. The parking space, where it happened, has our company name on it.
To add insult to injury this is right across from LAX and the airport security company is on the floor above us.
