I'm reading

_Out of Our Past: The Forces That Shaped Modern America_
by Carl N. Degler. verrrryyyy dry.

I'm comparing this to the one I read last month on American historical perspectives from the minority point of view (written by a Japanese academic)

Impressed? heehee. Not really, I'm sure. All this talk about the war on this board and others has lead me to believe that I really don't understand my country anymore.

My values are so different from the whole, it seems. Searching, searching, searching....

What are you reading? I'd rather be reading fiction...my fave SciFi lately is Vernor Vinge stuff.

James Baldwin is my absolute favorite...I'm still trying to finish all of his novels.

the odyssey for english

just finished "Veronika decides to die" by my favorite writer Paulo Choelo he's a brazilian writer thatt moves me to tears.

The Mentor by Sebastian Stuart....it's a psychological thriller...kind of bland in the beginning but really picks up in the middle!

EXPOSING THE CONSTITUTION AND OTHER ILLUSIONS

BY JERRY FRESIA

SOUTH END PRESS.

IT'S A CONTRIVERTIAL READ

i DON'T AGREE WITH EVERY THING, BUT IT HAS SOME INSIGHTFUL IDEAS

A GOOD BOOK FOR FUN

IS

THE POWER OF ONE

BY BRYCE COURTENAY

go OLD SCHOOL!!!

I'm glad someone got that joke. I've thrown out that term a couple of times and not one remark. Example:

Highlights Magazine is a better news source than <insert on-line website here>.

What was the name of that family that had a cartoon in every issue? They were all knobby, like made out of wood I think.

Was it the Timbertoes?

Goofus and Gallant taught me everything I need to know.

you'd think just for once goofus would do something right. I guess I was just a wide eyed optimist drinking caprisun and wearing underoos.

That's as likely to happen as the Rabbit getting Trix. C'mon now..

nature boy, you make me laugh. i have a cheesy sense of humor.

i thought all my classes were labeled spe-ed because i was a quick learner, but i guess it means special education :(

Also...anyone who is interested in "spiritual readings" should pick up "The Essential Chuang Tzu"...it's a collection of teachings by a Taoist philosopher....deep stuff :D

Oh I'm just getting started daised. You should check me out after I've had a six pack and start playing with my Speak N' Spell. I can take control of a room with that routine.

<warning, Speak N' Spell is another patented Nature Boy "way out there" reference>

I don't know if its a good thing, but I'm getting all your obscure references. I had the Texas Instruments Speak n' Spell and Speak n' Math myself.

Hopefully you don't talk about potato-powered clocks next.

Whew! I'm glad I'm not the only one here who needs professional help.

P.S. The vioce on the Speak n' Spell is what Steven Hawking uses to communicate. So that means we're smart like him.

I have both editons of Arnold's book and I go through them quite often. I have a stack of books I'd love to sit and read but with school I feel guilty reading anything other than a text book.

i just finishe reading Plainclothes Naked by Jerry Stahl.... great book, he's a great writer. he writes about the most obscure, funny, twisted shit......definitely pick it up!

another great book i read, right before that, is Disco Bloodbath by James St.James..... its about the murder of a drug dealer/clubkid and the beginning of the nyc club scene...its pretty fucked up but its a great book. i think the fact that its a true story and that it talks about so many hings that ive heard of, seen, done, remember is what makes it so chilling.....

then you're going to be all right. jdam and myself are a little screwed up.

speak n' spell was some electronic gadget back in the day. you typed in a word then it would "say" what you typed in a robotic tone. it was pretty useless but marketed as a learning aid for little kids.

The Awakening-Kate Chopin, is what im currently reading

as far as sales books, anything by Zig Ziggler would be your best bet..i have many of his books, good stuff!

also try Rich Dad, Poor Dad.

currently i am reading this post... however lately i have been reading some light and airy stuff by voltairre.

Rich

I am reading both "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" and "Lord of the Rings". Both are very good.

Lord of the Rings = Gen X's Harry Potter

So how we're just now getting a Rings movie? Tolkien rocks!

MacroMammaryPhilia...I thought philia were in the lungs? shows what I know about mammary glands...

LOR was great when I first read it, and inspired pretty much all of my favorite authors. I just couldn't read it now though, he goes into way tooo much detail and if I want detail Id read The Wheel of Time series again which IMO is better. I don't think I could read LOR trilogy again after DragonLance, FOrgotten Realms, Sword of Truth, adn Wheel of Time, too boring.

The movie on the other hand looks like it might be the coolest movie Ive ever seen

Gin, have I thanked you for using a quote from one of the most notorious homosexuals of modern literary life in your tag line? Have you read other gay lit?

:)

Besides college text books I am reading "Rack of Lamb" by Micheal Kenyon and "The Book of the Law" possibly by Aleister Crowley.
