Warning To Elite Brothers!!!!

Be careful, [email protected][/email] either knowingly or unknowing sent a virus to my elite mail account. The subject was "sample desktop", and the file name was sample. So do not open anything from this guy. According to Norton anti-virus, The virus was w32.nimda.E@mm (I'm not a computer genious and I don't know how much harm this virus can do) But thankfully I was able to quarentine the file so it wouldn't damage my computer.

The general rule of thumb is dont open any file that is a script(ie js, vbs, pif etc etc) or executable (ie com or exe).

Thanks bro!! The fucker e-mailed me the same thing!! I opened the e-mail but did not open the attachment so I think I am fine. I just got over a terrible virus no more then 4-5 days ago so if I got another one my comp would be flying out the window LOL

No problem Mustang, hopefully people on the board read this or have up to date anti-virus programs so thier computers wont get infected.

w32.nimda.E@mm is the latest version of the nimda virus. It's admin spelled backwards. It most likely is not this guys fault. The virus enters your system and tries to send itself out via MS Outlook. That's how it propagates. He probably had your email addy's in his outlook folder and when he got the virus it automatically sent itself out to everyone on his list.

and it sucks, It scanns IP Ranges looks for computers running Web Server Services and then tries to run Virus Files on Infected webservers non freaking stop. It sucks if you are on a LAN and 10,000 people's computers are sending and recieving traffic it will bog yer connection way down be sure your clean.

You may wanna add *.eml and *.wns files to your scan list because NIMDA creates alot of these files esp the eml Mc Afee and Norton Will clean these just a pain in the but if your on a LAN cause it copies through Network Shares also

Hey ryvor,

go check out that domain and then tell me its not this guys fault. This guy is a fucking weirdo and so is everyone else on there.

Guys, usually the sender is not responsible for the virus you got. My guess is that [email protected] got infected himself and the virus was sent to his contact list. I receive a couple of emails containing viruses from my friends every week. Rule of thumb, never open an attached file if you were not expecting it. In doubt, reply to the sender and ask him if he is the one who really sent the file.

Thx WeeMan, Im all over it. I was specifically mentioning files NOT to open that come in via e-mail. As the admin for the company I work for I have allready had my runin with this damn virus, some days I just want to amputate the hands of some of the users. :)

P.S for those that are worried about this specific virus, mcafee does offer a standalong nimda scanner/remover at thier site.

I'm updating our Firewall as we speak. I hate freakin viruses. A royal pain the ass.

NOTE: Most "average" computer users do not realize that just because you have Virus Protection software running on your PC does not mean you are protected. You MUST update your virus files (these are virus macro, virus sign and def files) on a regular basis. Do not let a week go by without doing it. Incorporate it as part of your cycle. Do a shot, update your virus protection.

Unfortunatly our network was in place before I was or I would have never used this MS garbage for a mail server or client. I would be using unix and filtering out all unscrupulous files on the way in. If a virus can get to a user, it WILL get installed because most dont know a mouse from a mousepad.

Go to Norton's site, they have an extraction utility for that virus.

I got some sort of virus through instant messenger, dont know much about computers, but it really messed things about for a while, seems to have gone now, god there are some sad fucks out there who must create these things. bbigman2000:mad:

My ex-compnay got hit by this virus (while i still worked there). What a pain in the ass!!!!!! It attaches a file called sample (a lot of diff types, ie exe, jpg,) to every file in your system eventually causing way too much mem used and then it goes around and sends the email out to all of the other addy's in your comp. To see if you were infected, go to FIND and do a search for the word sample. if 800 bizillion files come up, you got it. Now that norton microsoft came out with patches to fix it, all you have to do is go to MS and save the patches to a disc. Then just run them and it gets rid of it all.

good luck.

I just got word from oblivion, he doesn't even think it was his e-mail account that it was sent from....he thinks it was someone spamming using his e-mail address.

everyone already explained the nimda virus..so my word of advice to everyone that is a home/or small business user....is to get a firewall...Download Zone alarm...or black ice defender..these are two really good products...even if you were to contract a virus..and it attempted to use your ports..to scan for other computers...or to let other computers know you are infected...the firewall should stop all the activity before anything happens....

Here's some funny shit for ya!

We've got this lady in the office who is such a tight ass bitch, she thinks she's the shit. She's probably in her early 40s I think. Anyway, before we put in the new linux firewall she was complaining about her system acting funny. Long story short, we had the guy who takes care of the system come in and in searching through the Panda Virus Software he found that she had went to a site called something like, www.malesexvirgin... and she downloaded a screensaver which had the virus on it. Some funny ass shit. She swears up and down she does not visit those types of sites and doesn't know how it got on there. Welllllll, only she knows the password to her system sooooooooooo.

chances are that he didn't send it to you on purpose, he was probably infected with it and it sent itself out to people that were in his address book

Yup, it can be frustrating. The nimda virus is hard o get out cause it roots itself very deep in your OS. Be careful guys.
