The workout I referenced in my post was an off-season one. In-season was a whole different animal. Running was done during practice, and determined by the opponent that week. For example, when we played Nebraska, a running team, we only did 10 deep-ball drills at the start of practice (deep ball drills basically were about a 50-yard sprint). However, the week before Colorado, who attempted something like over 50 passes when we played them, we did 50 deep ball drills at the beginning of practice to get conditioned for the game.
The off-season running workouts were designed for speed and explosiveness (which they did accomplish), yet at the same time they wanted us to develop enough endurance to play for 4 quarters. It was a fine line, but I think the strength coaches did a great job in retrospect. What I'd give to be in that kind of shape again. damn
