Walking for fat loss

I'd like some opinions on the effectiveness of walking (moderate-brisk, outside rather than on a treadmill) in burning up bodyfat?

I was thinking 2 x 45-60 min sessions a day, 7 days a week with the occasional HIIT session thrown in just to keep things fresh. I can't do regular HIIT or any kind of sprinting/fast stairclimber workout because of knee problems.

Would this be a feasable way of getting to 10-12% bf in conjuction with a low carb diet & 3 heavy training sessions a week (around 100g of carbs a day)

I always drop a couple pounds when I come back to college because of all the walking I have to do. I think its effective to lose fat. Your diet will have the greatest effect on fat loss though.

started at 244lbs a year ago and now i'm at 184lbs, all of it lost by a good brisk incline powerwalk on a treadmill 6-7x a week 65 per day and a good diet

What bodyfat were you at, and what are you at now? Karma for the loss in weight but it could have been some muscle along with it. Also, it's easy to lose weight when you're packing a lot of extra. Getting shredded is the real tough part.

dimi3 thats great bro, I don't want anything that drastic I'm looking to go from my current 220ish to about 200 getting a 32" waist & keeping my arms about the same size.

the fustrating part of dieting is my initial weight loss seems to come from the areas I don't want to lose size from

There is no way possible that if you lose weight some of it wont be muscle. Just keep your diet high protein and still lift hard. I went through a 3-4 week walking phase a few weeks ago in which I walked about 4 days a week at the gym for like 30 minutes after lifting. I lost like 7 lbs or so but didnt notice any significant muscle loss. Actually it made my muscles come out more. Just slowly up the cardio session by session and watch the results from week to week. If you notice too much weight loss at once like over 1.5lbs a week than you are losing more than just fat. But if 1.5lbs a week its safe to say most of it is minimal muscle loss and most of it is fat loss.

Yeah, take a look at my post in the introduce yourself board... I was way overweight, lost a ton in a short period of time and now I am struggling to put the muscle back... what wetback16 says is very true (my doc said the same thing) more than 1-2 lbs lost in a week and you are eating muscle.

Walking works man.

I walk for 45 minutes a day 5x's a week on a 4.5% incline at 3 mph....I dropped from 220 to 203 in about 5 weeks.
