vitamin A......how big is a large dose?

i keep reading about how vitamin A can help clear up anything that you might get on your back or something. i just have a few, normal for working out id say. nothing major and nothing im really worried about.
however i would just like to prepare for the future just in case. they say take a large dose of Vit-A for 2-3 day. but how big is a large dose?
