Here is james moser, a 17 year old kid who has been living with me for a while. He is about 6'3" and skinny, but the vid shoes 3 clean and jerk attemps from last weekend at the american open. first is 175k or 384lbs, second is a miss at 182k or 402lbs, and the third is a completed 402lb clean and jerk. He got red-lighted on the last attempt for dropping the bar from too far up. By the way, there are numerous slow motion analysis shots of each lift, so you have to look at the board behind him to see the weight and attempt number, first attempt has a 175 and under it a 1 (1st attempt), second has a 182 with a 2 under it, and the one that is the funnest to watch has 182 and a 3 under it.

quite strong for a skinny 17 year old, but I have a 15 year old named Caleb who will beat that next year..

how much does he fullsquat? :)

I think he's posted on GoHeavy that his coach(dad) does not have him back squat very often, if at all. I think his dad actualyl said he didn't back squat at all.

Only front squats.

And guts.

james doesnt do back squats. he does clean and jerk and snatch just about every day, most of the time 2 times per day. back squats take a lot out of him, so much that it interferes too much with the rest of his training. the front squat doesnt seem as difficult to recover from.

I can't say enough good things...and congratulations to you both.

I got nervous just watching that video. That is simply unbelievable. I think it's silly that you can get the red light from dropping the bar from too far up. Whats the rationale behind that?

I think that they want your hands to be below mid-chest or so before letting it go. So you aren't "throwing it down" maybe...

I don't care...that lift deserved to be a record. I give it 3 whites with a BIG warning to the athlete "not to do it on his next lift"...lol.

The rule is that you have to have control over the bar untill it is below your waist. It is i think a safety thing, you dont want bars bouncing all over the place, the athlete is not always in the middle of the platform when he or she lets go of the bar! Of course not just dropping the bar from overhead but controlling it on the way down also is much better on equipment!

It is unfortunate that the lift didnt get passed, however, rules are rules. If you are not going to enforce them, you shouldnt have them in the first place. If you have them, you have to at least attempt to follow them.

"His clean technique needs real coaching (to say the least). Strong guy, with good technique, he would do well"

lol.

Anyway to make the wrists stronger? I have real thick weak wrists. they don't like to bend back.

I watched the vid last night but forgot to check back for the inevitable YouTube form guru comments. Hilarious as always.

That inspired me to check the vids of Bolton's 1003 dead, where I found this gem:

My deadlift to gut ratio is higher than him!

Nice lift anyway.

You realize this is a world record, correct?

Well I deadlift half his weight, but his gut is twice than mine. You get it?

Some brilliant man once said something to this effect:

"Getting punched in the face is a strong deterrent to stupidity. The internet removes this mechanism for instant feedback."

I understand, and agree. Just, as a judge, it would have been hard for me to have given him a red light after setting a record. I would have given him a good warning though ;)
