im thinkin of gettin rid of my vette and buying a viper. i dont like the new ones but the ACR edition in 2000 are friggin nice my buddy has one. what do u think
 
i guess it all comes down to what you want to drive more,i like the look of the vettes over the vipers,but its all preference i guess

i like them both ive had a vette for 5 years now i just want a change
 
One of dads friends had a GTS but got rid of it due to poor reliability.

Porches are overprices volkswagons. I'd go with a newer vette preferrably a z06.

But since you're ready to pay for some Mopar junk, have you considered the Maserati Gransport ? M6 ? Audi RS4 ? Damn I'd even take an Acura NSX before a Viper.

Seriously there's no bashing (at least not from me). The car looks nice, lots of torque but it's the good old muscle car concept. Love it or hate it. V10 8.3L making 500hp vs. V10 5L making the same output (BMW M5 and M6) ? I'll take #2 please.

mainly cause I think I suck balls @ driving fast cars.

I like Vettes but I always hear people saying it reminds them of a cheesy old man having a mid life crisis. That alone has kept me from buying one, lol. Not only that but you see corvette's all the time. You don't see that many Vipers out there. It blows a vette away in both style and performance. The V10 sounds beautiful and really opens up when you get it on the highway. My only complaint is that it's a gas pig.

I'm not a fan of the new body style either. The older one looks unique. A lot like the Shelby Cobra from the 60's. Go for it bro. You'll love it!

I think it's actually the guys driving honda, toyota, acura, etc that's the 'small dick crowd'. When I'm driving in one of my cars they are always the ones with chips on their shoulders trying to race.

Viper is built like shit, and has all engine and no suspension. The Vette isn't as fast in a straight line, but it's a more complete car. So the choice is flash or quality.

Not that I've driven either one... :rolleyes:

Viper owns the Z06 on a straight line, I agree.... BUT the Z06 will definitely beat the Viper on a circuit track. Btw I'm not a Vette fan but I've seen enough Vettes owning Vipers on the track that I have to give credit where its due
 
can I drive the viper? If so... then yes, get the viper
 
gotta go with the vet....75 grand......505 horse power it will do 187 mph......it beats the 911 turbo to 150 mph and a $ 250 grand ferrari...why not....american muscle at its best.....GRRRRRRREAT STUFF
 
theres too many vettes around nowadays though, and i dont drive the car on the track so that doesnt apply to me. viper just have a meaner and cooler look to them. i agree the new ones arent appealing to me at all but the ACR is a fuggin sweet car
 
I dont know man....gotta check all my car mags and yeah the viper is faster...just by a bit...but the vette you can still do a lot to the car to make some more horsey's bro....plus ....it handles soooo much better....
 
whats your budget?

my buddy down in texas just finished up a twin turbo project on one of his two gts's. after the custom headers the car went onto the dyno and made 1298rwh and the clutch let loose (hes waiting on a carbon clutch now). this car is totally undrivable on the street. With the boost controler off (10.1 psi), it gets sidways if you hit it at 100+mph, he dynoed it on slicks and there was rubber everywhere. now theres a viper, lol.
 
also dont know if youve heard yet but theres another new vette coming out March 2008 C/Y as a mid year 2008 Model intro. 650 hp, 7.0 liter Supercharged, 2900 lbs., Lexan side and back glass, CF everything, etc. no word on price yet but it should be over 100k since the XLR-V is already at the 100K point and gm is looking at far fewer than the 35,000 $40k Vettes, and the 5,500 $70k Z06's that come out each year.
 
Vipers remind me if hairy Italians with lots of gold on. The guys who drives vipers up in Montreal look like this...or maybe they are Lebanese...in any case, no to a viper. I love Vette's and or BMW's!

if you buy this car you have to have it entered in a certain amount of races per year blah blah and be a professional racer. my buddy works for gm and thats what he told me. it wont be available to the public

me personally i wouldnt pick either one. i drive a clk right now and looking to upgrade to an m6 or e55. what is your budget and what are you using the car for? daily driver? fun car? etc...

the last 5 years of vipers have been awesome.

you want a more badass car? a porsche 911 carrera is definitely a more impressive vehicle on the road.

dont be discouraged cause its a dodge..its not the same as a duragno

viper is better than vette..but you could do better maybe- like a 98 or 99 ferarri or something would be cool..depends on your tastes though

dont get one of the early year vipers....SOOO small

How much of that meanness can you see when you're behind the wheel? Unless you like driving by store windows so you can see your own reflection.

If you're a drag racer, buy the Viper. If you like going around corners, buy something else.

C6 Z06 > Viper hands down. Idk if you want to buy something thats fast stock but i would be tempted to buy something like a GTO, S2000, etc. and slap a turbo kit on it. I know a GTO with a bolt on turbo kit make over 400whp and runs mid 11's, same goes for the S2k.
 
your nuts. caddy sts-v with the vette engine and a supercharger. if those are the only two choices i'm disapointed with the new vipers. they are not that fast. the zo6 vette is running 3.9-4.1 0-60. there is supposed to be a special addition zo6 called the blue z06 that will have even more power. the gt carerra is amazing. my boy has one of 5 black ones in the u.s. 60 in 2.4 secs. it does 60 in first gear and the 1/4 mile in 2nd. amazing machine, the only car ive ever driven that the second you let the clutch off you are literally going 50mph. the clutch is so hard it pushes your foot off. still any porsche is gonna blow away your vette or viper just on ride handling and all around luxury. i'd much prefer an STS-V or a audi RS4.

it amazes me that someone will spend so much on a piece of shit viper. Carreras are the shit my dad owns one and let me drive it when im over on the east coast. the mercedes SL 550 is nice too

yes i agree they are junk. the sl is nice. i would only get an sl if it was a 55amg or a sl65 bi turbo v-12. those are amazing machines.
 
if you are looking for a super car look no further than a bmw M6, a porsche 911 GT2 or turbo are amazing machines.

dude its still a fucking dodge and a vette is still a chevy. American car companies make shitty sports cars. Vette has always seemed redneck to me except I do love the classic vettes. The carrera is the best car for the money and will stand out amongst the other cars. No one really takes that much notice of a vette b/c there are so many of them. Vettes have awesome power but their handling sucks

1st place ? What kind of performance Test Category ?

The koenigsegg CCR does 0-60 in 3 sec. with 806hp. 1/4 in 9 seconds and lateral g-force of 1.3g all that STOCK and in a car that will actually destroy about everything (except a Veyron) on a track. Of course the Hennessey is cheaper but then, those 1000HP Supras are also cheaper. Whatever !
 
porche = overpriced volkswagon. The viper isn't really reliable. I worked at a dodge dealership when I was in high school and they were constantly servicing and fixing 2 doctors' vipers. They would break down about every month like they were ragging. Also one of my dads friends had a GTS Viper that had numerous problems after 35k miles. If I had the dough I'd get a lambo, or a ferrari f355 spyder.

the carrera is a really good deal for only like 90k. Ferraris are really nice but I don't really like the look of the lambos. If you really want a cool car the Aston Martin Vantage is ridiculous. It is one of the nicest cars I have ever been in plus you will look like james bond in it.
 
It doesn't really matter, they both start with the letter "V"
