Vehicle warranties

crak600 said:
strong as hell engine, too bad everything else is the real problem.

Oh yea.. the vehicle is great and she loves it..
Just not all the engine bay repairs and unreliability after the first 4 years..

I had a 94 S10 PU and yea those 4.3L V6 engines are torquee as hell..
They wear out the engine mounts because of this..
Basically a 350 V8 with 2 cylinders chopped off.

yeah, i always thought my 91 non-Vortec Blazer was reasonably strong. had decent torque and would muscle it's way up hills offroad when need be. then i drove that 99 and fully understood how much my engine was dying.

I agree with ylifter. I don't think extended warrantys are worth the money on new cars. I mean it is just insurance. And they are betting you don't have a problem and since all the statisticians that study risk say it is a good return for companies to sell. I bet with the statisticians and save the money because I know I will take good care of the vehicle.

The only time I would consider buying an extended warranty is when I buy used which I usually do because I don't know how well the person that owned the vehicle before me took care of it. And since you save so much money buying a year or two old model that it easily pays for the warranty and then some. It is pretty stupid to buy new unless you buy it through your own company imo.

As far as your warranty if your paper work says 60k and you have 61k miles on it. You just busted like you do in blackjack in vegas.

Yea,, mine was a vortec 4.3..
I test drove the 4.3 vortec HO High Output engine and it was ever hotter..

My feeling on warranties is that they can be worth the money, depending on the product. When it comes to vehicles, new or used, I tend to think they're worth it, but that's not really my point, which I guess wasn't clear.

I'm looking to potentially purchase another warranty for the truck, as I think I may have the beginnings of a serious problem. However, given that it's now out of warranty, can I do that? And has anyone had any experience with a particular company?

I looked at trading the truck in recently, but didn't think it was worth it for me to do it right now.

This may change my mind...I may ride it out for a few months and try to buy something at the end of the year.

You have to look around some companies will not let you buy a warranty after certain mileage or time. I am pretty sure you can't get a GMAC warranty now but I would just ask the F&I guy if he knows of any that you can buy. What kind of chevy did you buy?

Yeah, I'm waiting on one of the schmucks from the dealership to call me back. I know that'll be fun. GMAC I think is out, but it's hard to say, because they don't put the details on the web.

I have a 2002 Avalanche. Had no problems at all to this point, and I'm not even really having problems now...just being paranoid, mostly.

Generally you can only but an extended warranty within the first year
or so of a vehicles life..

Much like buying life insurance after you find out you are gonna die in 2 weeks..
If you could get it, it would be very very expensive. hence not a good value IMO

If you really feel the truck is gonna be due a high dollar repair, look at trading it
in on a new one..

Once they open the engine and tranny in a major way,
the thing will never be the same..

Dude, I wouldn't be. Chevy trucks are the best american vehicles out there right now. The vortec motor is awesome. Chevy's trucks are the only vehicles I buy. They will go for 200k miles if you maintain them right and not abuse them. Besides they are definetely good for a 100k miles with minor problems like an alternator maybe. But that will only set you back a couple hundred or so. Why spend $1800 on extended warranty? Spend the money taking your family on a killer vacation instead. You bought a good reliable truck.
