Vehicle warranties

I wouldn't be concerned if not for the fact that it (A) makes some sort of clicking noise when it goes into passing gear and (B) the transmission seems to slip on occasion.

Oh, you didn't say that before. My maybe get an estimate from a tranny shop and see what it would cost to fix. I still bet it would be less than the warranty cost.

clicking as in engine detonation pre ignition ?
as in too low octane of gas ?
happen also when you accelerate hard or on a hill ?

Or is the noise coming from the trans ?

The cash outlay for a new vehicle right now would likely be a $500 down payment and about $1800 for cash and licensing.

just take that $650 and buy my 91 Blazer. drive that for a few months, then your Avalanche will feel like like a damn cadallac with no problems whatsoever ;)

side note - the transmission is pretty easy to flush out. a manual is typically easier than an automatic, provided it has a drain plug. with an automatic, you have to figure out which line going into the radiator is the feed and which is the return, and have one hell of a drain pan handy (5 gallon bucket). you run the engine while the old trans fuild is being pushed out and at the same time you fill it. pretty easy to do actually.

i flushed the trans in her civic once, as it was getting clunky (honda automatics are notorious for this). it was pretty smooth for the next few thousand miles, then went back to it's old ways again. can't win with a honda automatic. that's the sole reason why i got mine in a 5spd.

Clicking as in a noise that it makes when I accelerate hard, and the truck goes into passing gear...it's coming from the engine compartment somewhere. Hard to tell, because I can't pop the hood and check while I'm driving.

The transmission just doesn't always engage right away...like I'll hit the gas at the light, and it's a second or two before I move.

is it revving while you're waiting to move?

This is what you do. Call Chevrolet customer assistance. The number is in the back of your owners manual. Explain the situation to them. Tell them you have owned multiple chevrolets in the past. If you have had all scheduled maintennace done and the repair is not a maintenance item like tires or brake pads then they may help with some of the repair. especially after you made the effort to purchase an extended warranty. If the dumbass on the phone tells you there isnt anything they can do ask to speak to a supervisor, dont let them talk u out of it because they will try. Then tell the supervisor how dissappointed you are and the whole story again. they have the authority to make decisions. MAy take a few days to get an answer, this is not a guaranteed but worth a shot.

Also never buy an extended warranty from someone that is not the maker of the car, ie chevrolet = GM extended warranty . You may have to pay a lilttle more for it, but it is worth it. Less hassle, and you will know exactlly waht is covered.
