Vehicle warranties

Okay, this bites.

I *thought* I had purchased a 5 year 75K mile warranty from the dealer when I bought my truck...turns out it's a 6 year 60K mile warranty, and I'm at 61,000 miles.

The warranty's through a third party, and I have yet to reach anyone helpful at the dealership.

Anyone have any suggestions? Anyone ever dealt with an after-market third party warranty place?

Again, this bites.

What does the warranty paperwork you signed say? 5 75K o r 6 60k ?
The only extended warranty that is gauranteed to be valid for the life of the
contract is a Manufacturers warranty..

It the 3rd party goes out of biz you are out of luck..

I always believed extended warr are not a good value. Many consumer groups agree
It's a better value to buy a very reliable vehicle at a bit higher initial cost.

The paperwork jives with what the dealer shows...it's just my memory that's bad on this particular point.

I had a warranty on my Cavalier, and used the hell out if it...paid $1700 for the warranty on the truck, and had several items to be taken care of under warranty, but had been putting it off thinking I had more time.

The worrisome part is that I think I may be on the cusp of engine/transmission problems.

Don't tell me.. Dodge ?

Nope, it's a Chevy. And precisely the reason I didn't buy a Durango several years ago...engine and tranny problems.

And FZ, you wonder why no one ever says anything nice to you.

After market warranties are usually legit, just go over the fine print, they are useful.

Agreed, unless the 3 party company goes under between the time you bought the vehicle/warranty and when you need it years later..

We have put maybe a few thousand in repairs on my wife's 6 yr old GMC Jimmy.. She says never again on a GM or other US based company vehicle.. Looking at a Nissan PathFinder in 05 as the Engines and Trannys are manufactured in Japan and only assembled in the US..

some of the late 90s Jimmys and Blazers were the problem children of GMs fleet. my neighbor has one and has had numerous problems. hers is a 99 or 2000. the little girl's grandparents had a 2000 and had problem after problem.

what really sucked was i drove a 99 with a 5spd and fell in love with the power and the way it rode. strong as hell engine, too bad everything else is the real problem.
