Upper Back Pain and Frustration

So last week I pulled a muscle in my upper back, somewhere down where the neck muscles anchor between the shoulder blade and spine. I'm guessing it may have been a rhomboid. It any rate, I figured it was from letting my form get away from me on the last rep of my deadlifts last week and took a few days off.

Everything feels better, so I head back last night. I come to the top of a squat with just enough weight on the bar for it to wiggle a bit, and bam, I feel the pain again. I put two and two together and realize I am pulling my neck because I am racking the bar too high. I move it down lower where my shoulders catch most of the weight (i.e. where you are supposed to) and no more pain. It's frustrating because I have spent so much time worrying about my knees and lower back that I missed something this obvious.

My first 12 weeks on a 5 x 5 were great. The second has been plagued by tendinitis, flexibility issues, and now this. Eh, I guess I shouldn't bitch as I know a lot of use have dealt with a lot worse than a little pull, but I wanted to vent a bit. I also thought it might be nice to relay this story for the benefit of the young guys that sign up here excited about their first time doing weight training and what not.

Yeah it is weird. Most of the time it is no big deal, but when it finally flared up it was hard to even duck to get in a car.
