my wife is 19 weeks pregnant as of last week.....I went in Friday payed $320.00 for an ultrasound.......she is real vauge as to the sex of the baby...she says"I think I would ask for girl clothes at the baby shower, but I wouldn't pull the tags off." Now I don't know what to think....I scheduled a 4-D for 3 weeks away....

I wonder if its a liability thing..or what...are they allways vauge just to cover their ass?? Does anyone have any experience with this??

babies are ALWAYS girl until they can clearly see the family jewels hanging there...

something like this (this was ours)

4d is better resolution and should be a bit clearer.
The reason is liability and it can be mistaken if they dont see a penis or the umbilical cord is mistaken for a penis.

People go out and buy all the baby stuff for the gender stated and its incorrect, basic CYA in medicine.
You are allowed to say its a boy or a little girl with a penis

well, you can see their sex when she is around 5 months pregnant, but the technician always tells you that it might no tber possible to see it, cause the baby might be turned in a position that it wouldnt allow it.

Thanks guys.....It seemed that she was being elusive on purpose...maybe the 4-D will be more conclusive...

standard procedure to not get results, 4d is much better resolution to identify structures to be more conclusive, you'll be able to see your baby's face

WOW 4D ultrasound! how cool!! Sometimes they simply can not be certain about the gender.

Just stay with neutral stuff until the baby comes and as she said, keep all the tags on. You will most likely end up returning a lot of the stuff anyway. Newborns grow AMAZINGLY fast!!!

Good health and happiness to your family, patience and sleep! ;)

You will probably have more patience because you have seen so much more life.

I wish you and your lovely family ALL the happiness in the world and the strength to weather the storm! :)

Thanks Bikinimom you are a sweetheart

It all depends on the position of the baby. The tech can tell you what the sex is but they need to be sure incase they mistake the cord for a penis.
It is better to wait untill your second ultra sound. At 19 weeks they are not developed.I would wait untill around 24 or 25 weeks. If baby is not in right postition you may end up with a great tech who will have wifey roll over onto side where they may be able to get better result of the privates.

Our first ultrasound the tech told me that it was a boy then changed her mond and said girl. I guess it's relatively easy to interpret the labia for a penis and vice-verca.
