Holy shit that griffen/bonnar fight was insane, best fight I ever saw.

He is only 6 1 202 pounds. He came into a bar I owned in Cols, Ohio several years ago and was bigger then. Mark Coleman and Kevin Randleman used to be regulars and actually promoted some fights in my bar. Coleman was a lot bigger than Shamrock. I had a manager that did a lot of underground fighting at the time and he was a fucking animal. 6 3 315 on juice and 265 off. I never saw a man train as hard as he did. I'm convinced he could have been a superstar too if he would have followed that path. Hell he loved to go fight anyone anytime for a few hundred bucks. Nicest guy in the world, but he was the toughest bastard I ever met. Kevin Randleman said many times he was only afraid of two people his whole life and my manager was one of them. Anyway I agree that fight was unbelievable. I thought Bonner won it, but it was a great fight.

I sure don't agree with the unanimous decision. Hell of a fight. I guess dana White didn't agree either. Maybe that's why Bonner got a contract as well. He deserves one.
The Shamrock fight was a disappointment.

Shamrock fight was disappointing!! He truely gave up.

Has anyone seen the "Battle of Perine". It is a video taped underground fight from Miami. The guy who won that fight was a monster and took every punch the guy throw and laughed. That will take the heart out of you. It was crazy!

shamrock has a decent physique, but big at 6'1 and 200lbs, not likely

Serge Nubret looked pretty damn good at 6' and 200 pounds. I agree, Shamrock doesn't look all that big.
I too was surprised when I saw those stats. I thought Shamrock was a lot bigger than he actually is. I know he used to be bigger than that when he was with the wwf.

Yes he was bigger in UFC 1 too when he fought Royce Graci. I thought Bonner won the fight too, but Dana did the right then by giving them both contracts.

So the consensus is that Shammy is done?

No he's not done. Shamrock took a dive to put the kid over so that UFC can make a star out of him. Plain and simple, Shamrock got paid to lay down and take a beating.

As much as I was rooting for Bonner, I think Griffin did win the fight. He had more take-downs and whenever they clashed, Griffin seemed to connect slightly better. Both are great fighters and it was the right decision to give them both contracts, simply to set up a rematch that they can hype the hell out of.

I also think that Mike Swick should have goten a contract but not in the weight class he fought in. He was fighting above his normal class and he should have been given a contract at the next lower class.

show was poorly laid out, Kenny had not shot in the finals and looked scared. But regardless the three best fighters won contracts.

he was bigger in the wwf and before that, in the earlier years of ufc. he looks soft. his chest has seemed to sag.

fuck nice profile pic dude :) you bad,lol

A lot of people are saying that the Shamrock - Franklin fight was a fix. I hate to think that, but it definitely could have been. First Shamrock slips, then he doesn't even defend myself gainst Franklin's blows ... plus, didn't it look like Ken let go of his ankle lock? I need to watch it again to be sure.

That shit goes down in UFC too?

damn........everyone is corrupt these days.

Why would Shamrock leave wrestling to fight anyway? It seems the money would be better and less of a beating in wrestling.

there's allready a thread in the Martial arts forum about this show.

Forrest vs Bonnar - great fight...goes w/o saying.

Diego vs Flo - well, he beat the guy that got lucky by laying on a very smart/planned elbow.. I would rather have seen Leben vs Diego.

Shammy vs Jim Carey - I'm completely sure in my own head that it was NOT a fix. The slips got everyone talking, but thats all it is...talk.

The finale - Perfectly produced and timed...I hope the ratings turn out good.

The series as a whole - Incredible...I want my crack/I mean TUF season 2 ASAP!!!!!!!!

Think of how many people are going to apply to get on Season 2. I hope they keep the same format - I liked how they showed the entire fights without editing them.

Not completely true. Try having someone fuck up and drop you on your head when wrestling. Doesn't feel too good. And as far as UFC being fixed. Sorry, but sometimes, yeah totally. I'm not saying all the fights are, or even most. But when they see an opportunity to make a star, and make a ton of cash out of someone. They do what they have to do. And what is the easiest way to make a star? Have him beat one of the best fighters ever. It just seemed too obvious that it was fixed. Ken didn't even try to defend himself when on the mat.

If Ken threw the fight like you're suggesting, he probably made alot more money from that fight than the other dude did. If he's gonna put a price on his integrity, at least it's high.......

What Ralph said pretty much sums up how I feel. I nearly jumped through the ceiling when Dana announced Stephan would also get a contract because I loved both of those guys. Their fight was simply amazing. I look forward to seeing them fight in future UFCs. Florian was a joke. Should have been Leben. Who is watching UFC 52 this weekend?

i'll be watching ufc 52 for sure. got some money on trigg and looking forward to the st. pierre/jason miller fight too. dont miss the opening round of the Pride Grand Prix coming later this month might be the best mma event ever.

I think Griffin won it because he kept the pressure on bonner, Griffin was the aggressor and slung him around when it went to grapling. It was very close I thought it should have been a split decision for Griffin. The cut on Griffins nose made it look better for Bonner.

Shamrock is usually a heavyweight, and can easily blow up. I have done 2 seminars with him, and his strength is amazing, strongest person I have ever grappled with. They say he has well over a double BW bench press, not bad at all....

Fixed fights in the fighting world are called "works". It does happen, and there are a few in japan that are this way. Shamrock has had 2 or 3 known works from his Pancrase days, one was with Matt Hume, not sure of the other. The only thing that makes me wonder if it was a work, is the fact Shammy wasnt talking shit, not one bit of trash talking. He even walk without his usual swagger to the octagon. That just isnt like him. There were a few other minor things that made me wonder. The fact that "Ace" had just signed a 8 fight contract is one of them, and also the former Golden Boy Titio ortiz, really isnt the golden boy anymore. Another one must be groomed. What do you guys think??

fixed or not Shamrock took a beating at the end. I am not sure ShamRock would agreed to risk such brutal head shots when they could have "faked" it with a fixed TapouT.

When Shamrock slipped the second time, to me it looked like he thought, 'fuck it, I'll fight from here", probably being very comfortable on the ground on his back. It looked like he was waiting for Franklin to go into his guard. But instead, Franklin stood above Shamrock and started raining roundhouse strikes from there. You don't see too many people connect strikes from that position at all. And apparently Shamrock didn't expect it either.
The first time I saw this, I thought, "If only shamrock didn't slip, things might have been different".
But after seeing it the second time, by the look on Shamrock's face after the slip, the slip itself didn't seem to bother him, and he looked like he was ready and perfectly willing to fight from that position the moment after he fell on his ass. But he, of course, didn't expect such a barrage of strikes to come down like they did. It just usually doesn't happen from that position.

It will be on again next weekend though, a couple times
I will watch it again

Shamrock didn't throw that fight. He just expected something different from the position, and may even have been a bit winded. Momentary lapse of concentration. Ken is as strong as a bulldozer on halotestin, BTW.

first of all all you idiots saying that fight was fixed need to stfu. you havn't a fucking clue what your talking about.

Diego is the man. He was the only one who never lost focus during the entire show. He was on a fucking mission.

Griffen and Bonner was awesome. Great fight. Glad they both got contracts. Griffen might go far. Bonner probably won't. He's got heart though.

The griffen/bonnar fight is the best fight i have seen in along time if not ever. The only concern for me was that they didnt have the power to land a KO on a decent oponent or they both had chins of steal either way a great fight. It was a very tough fight to score i would have said sudden death and 1 more round. Very glad they both got contracts though, maybe we will get to see how they stand up against some of the veterans.

As for Shamrock i persoanlly dont think he threw the fight, his weight has dropped down some what i think due to his fighting style changing so much he has had to. He trained diffrently for the last 12 months trying diffrent styles as MMA fans are aware more and more fighters are more well rounded in diffrent skills and fighting types. How he didnt finish that ankle lock i will never know i thought he had it tight with loads of room and time. But hey i seen other fighters get out of it before. I think he is finished in the UFC he is starting to lose his hand speed probably due to age (think hes 41).

Chuck and Randy fight: Hope this lives up to the hype. Chuck has improved a whole lot and obviously has great striking skills and is hard to take down. Randy what can u say he can pretty much do it all, great on the ground and decent standup.

Living in the UK i get the pleasure of paying over the odds for MMA DVD`s. But a small British Channel (Bravo) has started to air older shows of UFC and UFC 52 will be aired on BRAVO the day after u guys get it but for Free :). Cant wait....
