UK Bans Popcorn in Movie Theaters

i think this is a terrible business move...

concessions are the #1 source of revenue for movie theaters...not the fucking tickets...

Don't bother going to the cinema myself either (I think the last time was when Blade 2 released), fuck paying 8 quid to get in, I can get 3 DVDs for that.
i know, its a joke. people go on about "the cinema experience" i dont really get it. its just a big screen in a dark room thats to loud, with too many other people that get on my nerves. plus i have attention span issues and usually end up getting on everyone elses nerves.
i just feel more comfortable in my own home, with a few friends, we can chat and giggle without having some moody prick turn round and go "sssssshhh!"

I depend on the strong smell of popcorn to cover up the 4 chic-fil-a sandwiches and fries I smuggle in each time.

you're missing the point in the article, this move will only be in effect in the more upmarket cinemas where the snooty posh people go who think popcorn is "ghastly and trashy" where the ticket prices arer double what any normal cinema would be.
it wont affect the usual, regular, down to earth cheap(yeah, right) and cheerful cinema chains. they realise they make so much money from popcorn, and that half the fat phuks wouldnt even come if they couldnt gorge themselves on popcorn.

seriously...they probably buy 100lbs of popcorn kernels for the price you pay for large box of popcorn kernels. the profit made is insane.

now compare that to any other snack food...they simply will not get the same return on anything else that they will get with popcorn.

whoever decided this was a good idea is smoking crack.

in the US, i have NEVER heard of and/or seen an 'upscale' movie theater? a movie theater is a movie theater (except for those absolute ghetto $1 theaters...that is something else).

how are the upscale ones different than the normal theaters?

IMO, not in a big enough way to warrant the extortionate ticket prices.
but basically, they are decorated nicer from the moment you walk in, (yeah, like that makes a fucking difference to the films  ) dont have any of the cool video games arcades. nicer, bigger, more comfortable chairs that dont give you a numb arse or squeeze you next to the sweaty smelly man, smaller more intimate theatres, basically they just do what they can to attract a more upmarket crowd.
