I guess I posted this thread beccause I reason it like this. Its better that a couple terrorist plots are foiled and some are successfull, then no terrorists plots are foiled and all are successfull.

It's a good thing that their secrecy, fanaticism and culture works against them. In 1999 Afghanistan produced 75% of the world's opium (which is converted to heroin), before the Taliban made it a crime and imprisoned the farmers. I'm sure that they'll be going back to it this year.

Imagine the terrorists being savvy enough to ally with, say, Colombian drug smugglers, or pay off organized crime? They could get anything anywhere into the country at any time, or get massive funding by distributing heroin.

As for the holes and gaps, it's the effects of bureacracy and a microcosm of the Washington model, multiple agencies looking after their own little domains and funding, not about the big picture.

This is true. Why is it the government, supposedly employing some of most intelligence members of society, fails to develop an integreted intelligence sharing plan which effectivily addresses and evolves to constantly changing external threatS?

I suppose the answer is interdepartmental Politics. Unbeleivable. Whats more important - running an effective government and saving lives, or hoarding information? I hope when I grow up I dont play power games. Ridiculous. Hopefully, sept 11th will dispell the benfits of indepedant intelligence gathering departments.

it's still pretty damn hard to secure our borders. I know between canada and the US there are places where one could easily cross.


Plus with all of our imports, we simply can't inspect everything, it would take too damn long.
