Two questions about Deadlifts.

Breathing.....what is the exact correct way to breath throughout the movement. I want to make sure I have it right now that I am getting into the real eye bulging sets.

Also, what is the difference between "normal" deads and really wide stance deads? What the wide stance targets different? ect ect..

1) I am not sure, I know you want a tight torso, so maybe breathing in a little on your way up while keeping your core tight would be good? Then exhaling on the way down

2) I think wide is just a shorter distance for the bar to travel, so you can do more. I think it hits legs a little more too. Stick to conventional unless you plan on doing PL

btw when i did bench and got up i wasnt breathing and my brain was throbbing lol i think u read that thread, jus make sure u breathe!

I have been doing "traditional" breathing. Starting to exhale just before starting and through the lift and exhaling on the way down. As one would do during a pressing movement for example. Im thinking this may not be correct though. I definatley feel better with a belt though.

i think you want to inhale as well, but idk

Big breath in, pull...

It's all about the tight core, holding your breath can increase the inter abdominal pressure, resulting in a tighter core. however, there is an increased risk of circulatory problems from holding your breath.

Just make sure you take a big breath in before you pull, then breath out as soon as you feel comfortable. light weights/early sets that's pretty much as soon as the bar breaks the floor. Heavy sets you may want to hold a little longer.

Similar technique on the way down, breath in, hold as the bar is about the reach the ground. breath out as the bar touches.

conventional is better suited for people who's strength is in their back and/or have long arms. Sumo is better suited for guys with strong hips and glutes and shorter arms. I think thats right although I may be wrong, bblazer will probably know

EM is right about the stances. As for breathing i usually just hold it and slowly exhale while pulling. I don't really think about it anymore its just second nature.

From googling it i read that you want to take a deep breath, hold for the first 1/4 of your lift, exhale slowly for the rest of they way up, exhale on the way down. repeat

thats exactly how i do it, but im not moving the eye bulging weight...cant imagine it being to much diff tho
